  • EA cutting down Dice

I read in the newspaper yesterday that EA just told about 200 people working on Dice that they soon are going to have to leave their job on Dice!
This due to the PC market getting weaker and the console market getting stronger...
Should i be worried??? How is this gonna effect bf2??

No one at DICE has been layed off. Besides 200 people at DICE would be basically everyone that works both in Stockholm and Canada.

I believe EA's own studio in England made BF: Modern Combat.

            Not anymore it seems.....

            Digital Illusions cancels licensed game

Digital Illusions CE AB (publ) 2006-02-02

In the middle of October 2005 Digital Illusions signed an agreement to license the rights to Electronic Arts' studio in the UK to develop the Xbox and Playstation 2 versions of its untitled game with release in 2006/ 2007. Due to falling sales for games to both consoles EA and Digital Illusions have decided to cancel the development of the product for these two platforms.

Sales for PS2 and Xbox games has fallen during 2005 compared to 2004, mostly due to the hardware manufacturers’ new consoles being launched at the end of 2005 and during 2006.

Digital Illusions’ game Battlefield 2 Modern Combat for Xbox and PS2 has sold approximately 1 million copies to retailers until December 31 2005.

Yeah, we read that too, and Metro should be reprinting the story to get it right... somewhere on the back of page 12 in font size 6 I'm sure.

                        Re: EA cutting down Dice

DICE has had a stellar success with the BF2 series of games. I highly doubt that they would have to lay off anyone.

As you can see, BF2 is trailing distantly behind CS although it is still the #2 online game from what gamespy says.
