62% crash

I recently bought a new pc, and a copy of bf2 vanilla. I cannot load any maps, single or multiplayer, I get a crash to desktop or freeze on 62%.

My pc specs -
athlon 4000
2gb ram
7800GTX x2
600w psu
all drivers up to date, dx9c installed, bf patched to 1.12

I have tried changing graphics settings, reinstalling bf2 and patch, but to no avail. Searched this forum and no answers.

Anyone have a solution?

Well you're not alone at least. I've seen this mentioned before but can't remember what the solution is (if any) at the moment.

How long have you waited at 62%?

I can take upwards of 10 minutes for some people.

It crashes to desktop before it goes any further.

Ok, so it ALWAYS crashes to desktop when you wait at the 62% mark...

Update:

BF2 doesn't crash when reinstalled and unpatched. The 62% crash only occurs after the 1.12 patch is applied.
