Intro video suddenly jerky, gameplay jerky as well

Everything was working smoothly yesterday, today I started up BF2 and noticed that the intro video was acting a bit oddly, it seemed to be lagging behind the sound and then the sound would cut out completely every 6 seconds or so and try to re-synchronize or something. Gameplay is jerky as well, flicking the mouse around no longer results in a smooth motion, the point of view jerks to the intended position like a high-speed slideshow instead of seamlessly.

    Dell 3.4ghz
    GeForce 6800
SoundMax drivers (acceleration turned down so VoIP will work)
I have downloaded and installed the most recent versions I could find of the Nvidia, DirectX and SoundMax drivers. Anyone else experienced this sudden game-wide slowdown? The fact that it's affecting the intro video has me really confused.

Re: Intro video suddenly jerky, gameplay jerky as well

With all the recent posts of things going wonky "all of a sudden" I have to think this is somehow related; I just did a fresh re-install of everything and the exact same problem still exists, intro video slows down relative to sound and mutes while resynchronizing, and gameplay feels laggy even with pings in the low 30s, like there's a delay between the inputs and the game itself.

I loaded up Doom3 and Half-Life 2 and they play seamlessly as usual, since I changed nothing I'm convinced this is somehow related to BF2.

Well, after turning everything I could think of inside out, it turns out it was directly related to the Battlefield2 install; at least, completely uninstalling the game has cleaned up the Bink video issues with other games. Here's EA's suggested procedure in case anyone else comes across the problem, I'm going to try re-installing the game shortly with the hope that it will do so cleanly and not interfere with the system again.

      EA's support message follows:
I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with Battlefield 2. I do suggest that you manually uninstall the game to remove any corrupt files. Remember that editing your computers registry incorrectly can severely damage your operating system. We recommend having a computer professional perform these steps. If you are confident, however, that you can edit your registry successfully, then please follow the instructions below carefully.

First, backup your registry, just in case a necessary key is deleted:

Click on the Start button, and then Run.
      Type in regedit.
Click on the Registry (File in Windows 2000/XP) menu, then click Export Registry File.
Type in backup for the File name, and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
Click Save; this will save the file as backup.reg.
      Close the registry editor.

You have now backed up your windows registry. Next, you will need to perform the regedit and manual uninstall for the game

      To delete the save files:

      Open My Documents.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
To delete the game files (in the default location):

      Open My Computer.
      Open the C drive.
      Open the Program Files folder.
      Open the EA GAMES folder.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
      Close all open windows.
Right-click on the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.
To edit the registry and remove Battlefield 2:

      Click on the Start button.
      Click on Run.
Type regedit in the text field.
Click File and then choose Export.
Name the file Backup and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
Click Save; you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click the plus sign next to Software.
Click the plus sign next to DICE.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
Click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
Right-click and choose Delete on any Battlefield 2 folders.
Click the plus sign next to Microsoft.
Click the plus sign next to Windows.
Click the plus sign next to CurrentVersion.
Click the plus sign next to Uninstall.
Right-click on the key named {04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B} andchoose Delete.
A Confirm Key Delete window will appear, choose Yes.
      Close the WindowsRegistry Editor.

Battlefield 2 is now completely removed from your system, you may now reinstall Battlefield 2. After you have re-installed Battlefield 2, install the 1.12 patch. This is an incremental patch, you will not need install any of the original Battlefield 2 patches.

Uninstalling Battlefield 2 will not affect your online stats. These stats are kept on our server.
