Ive been talking to a lot of people, well some people, and we all rated Battlefield 1942 as the best game we've ever played. Now thinking about the current BF2, world war 2 mods, there are some really good ones but theres going to be none of them that goes for a conversion of the original without breaking any of the copyright issues of EA or DICE. This means that all of the content, sounds, models, textures, map and code is going to be created from the ground up. As an experienced coder, I will be taking up the whole coding process single handedly and taking up some of the initial mapping and texturing for the mod.
Now I know this topic might be a controversial one. Firstly theres the issue, why not go and play Battlefield 1942. Well the thing is, even though I rate the game as one of my favourites, I want to try and improve on it without destroying the game. DICE has given us so much more with the new engine, and I believe the game deserves to have this updating. The second reason there might be some controversy, is due to the fact that DICE/EA are quite strict on their copyright laws. However, if all the content is rebuilt from the ground up I cant see why they can kick up a fuss. Im not going to make any money from this mod, more likely to lose money, and so a mod like this should be allowed. Also Im willing to fight for this mod if controversy is found. They let a team build BF42 for the vietnam engine, and even helped them with bug testing and I believe a team that takes this on deserves the same respect.
Obviously, at first I will not be recreating the whole game. To begin with I plan to bring over one map, 2 full teams of weapons and vehicles for that map, a complete new set of textures and new sounds. I'm hoping to begin with a British vs German map to begin with, and hope to record the sounds for these characters by myself and with some friends.
To get this map off the ground however I need help, mainly in the form of modellers, skinners and animators. I can do all the coding by myself and can do some of the mapping, texturing and sound work by myself but unfortunately cant do everything by myself, so Im asking for help. If anyone is intrested in this drop me an email andrew.andrewhale@gmail.com
and I hope to hear from some of you soon.
