Q for great heli pilots.

I can fly a heli not too badly, line up the gunner and generally understand that the greatest fire power is the TV missile, hover, dogfight other helis not too shabbily and most other things pretty well. One thing I cannot seem to do is spin teh heli as fats as someof the other pilots out there, I am using a Saitek Evo joystick with the twist as my spin/rudder control, I seem to take ages to spin on the spot allowing FAVs etc to inflict serious damage. So the questions are, do they use a mouse with sensitivity turned fully up or are their joysticks configured differently?

Just general spinning using the rudder is very slow for me as well, for a bit of extra speed I tilt slightly in the direction im spinning and pull back on the joystick and that makes a large difference in spinning speed.

Whether its different on a mouse I've no idea

its different on mouse but yyou can adjust the sensivitiy to make it easier to move around

There is no way to make the chopper yaw any faster. Using a joystick rudder or keyboard makes no difference.

The whole point is to not rely on yaw only to turn your chopper in the heat of battle. Learn to pitch and roll to get yourself turned around MUCH quicker. Roll to one side and pitch back hard and throttle up.

I use the a and d keys to spin left or right, I also tilt the chopper a bit with the mouse

Using mouse on 10, and tilting it - allowing the main rotor to help you turn - helps greatly when u want to spin quickly or circle strafe an area....

It'll seem odd, being on a 30-45 degree angle, but you'll get around much faster than just trying to use yaw on its own..

i have the same joystick as you. i usually do what the other ppl said before me, by combining the turning of the rudder with also a controllable pitch towards the side that im turning. you gotta regulate the pitch yourself thou according to the speed of the turn you want to achieve and the amount of altitude youre gonna lose by doing a quicker turn.
also, if i need to make a VERY fast turn in an emergency, then i make a "jet style" turn. i tilt the chopper 90 degrees to the side, so im fully perpendicular to the ground, and pull back on the stick. this way you do a very fast turn but you lose a good amount of altitude, you have a chance of crashing into an object if youre too low, and it'll be hard for you to get back into hovering position. but practice makes perfect :)

You got it on the money buddy. I do the same thing, use a "jet maneuver"

Even though my joystick is unreplacable for me when flying jets, I never got into using it to fly choppers and I'm still using my keyboard.

Forward speed might have something to do with it as well as tilt since the helis turn quite well when at standstill/level. Makes sense really, the wind would keep the tail fin straight while moving at speed and it would be ridiculous if you could just turn the helicopter like a car by using the yaw.

Use the tilt to slow and turn, like a skater going up the side of a ramp and down again?

if you just use the keyboard to spin (a or d keys) and keep yourself balanced with the arrow keys you spin really fast, it takes a couple of secoinds to get up to speed but if you keep at it you can spin really fast and corkscrew up to about 1000 feet in a few seconds.

OR you could always tilt totally onto your side and press the back arrow key to spin in a side-on backflip, or just do a backflip, or a barrel roll, or a backflip/barrel roll combi, or just nosedive under something then do a backflip and roll over so you turn rounf that way. much more impressive.

These techniques work for me. Try using them when your in a black hawk and are trying to avoid jets/anti air missiles etc.

It's a question about where your torque is going, if you are flying forward or backward, it will spin very slowly, but if you have 0 airspeed, it will spin very fast.

Its like a hard fast landing or coming in to a helipad for ammo. just stick the nose up to stall speed and spin left or right (whichever you fancy). Simple as that and a very fast turn to boot.:)

I only use a mouse and keyboard and will do a quick dive then use the a or d keys to spin while pulling back hard on the mouse.

To spin very fast with the chopper, (I use a mouse) hold down either the A or the D key and then Pull your chopper to the left with the mouse or to the right (I don't know what its like with a flightstick).

Don't pull it too much or you will flip over, but its makes for quick turns...and then you have to level it out...
