Admins Dilema

we try hard to police our server from hackers
and all the admins in our Clan have 55,000 pts or higher
that is, we play alot, and have a feel for what is
"right"
sure, even though we are very good players
we still get "owned" often enough to keep the game challenging
now here is our problem
(and surely others have seen this - so what do you do?)
some guys are just toooooooooooooooo good

1. many one shot tank kills
2. 100% accuracy in dive bombing
3. helos that kills with 1 rocket
4. tank shots dead on from out of nowhere

we HATE to kick / ban guys
so we all watch for while, and if more than 1 of us agrees, we note his name, and ban
but then they probaly go off and do it elsehwere

your suggestions?

duh - we know about tv missles
we also know that they come from gunners
not pilots
(and I am not referring to single pilot helos)

you know, there are some people out there that are atually skilled enough to pilot &switch to gunner mode& use the tv-guided misiles...

Greg. During two rounds I was accused of cheating several times tonight, harrassed on text, multiple attempts at vote kicks and one guy even teamswapped to kill me. They couldn't understand how one guy could kill attack helos etc with aircraft cannon in one pass. I was a cheating, hacking SOB (sob being the most polite insult I can type here... ) and was even threatened with violence by one person. Quite funny really. Especially as the main offender reckoned he was 39 after I suggested he grow up... Embarrassing.
All because I was kicking their butts in an FA/18 on Fushee Pass. I've been flying sims for around eighteen years, played in sim teams, won competitions etc and have nearly 200 hours in BF2 jets, so if I wasn't very competent then I'd go get my eyes tested. :) The thing is I'm not the best pilot out there, there's plenty who can give me a kicking, but on this ranked, official server, I happened to be the best at the time (and they happened to be very bad. ). Gawd knows what they'd do if they came up against Theholymasterofwar or one of the other players I've seen get crazy scores in jets.

Would you have banned me?

Look from our experience of the 1000's of players who played on our server we have only caught 3 hackers. I doubt these guys are hacking, just based on that ratio above.

Why don't you take PunkBuster screen shots? Just incase you don't know what they are, you can take an SS of a players screen. Then its easy to tell whether or not they are running any hacks because they show up on their SS like dog balls.

I think you will find some people are just bloody good, but you may find a very small % who are actually cheating/hacking.

I'm not sticking up for you or anyone. It's good that you are a skilled pilot. But from the ground player's point of view, you might as well be a giant robot on the ground destroying everything while all we can do is throw rocks at you. When skilled pilots end up lopsided on one team, it gets ridiculous. Not that these people are cheating, but it is definetely an advantage almost to the point of padding. I suck it up and just remember it is a game, and most skilled pilots are only skilled pilots.

word. i take no offence in other people being better...although i often accuse of hacking, padding etc., i really don't mean it. Just like you said: suck it up butercup.

That is definately the solution. If your machine can handle the extra workload pb screenshots are where its at. It causes lag on my server tho when running ss and battlerecorder. Give it a shot.

Dv8. Fair enough, check my ground stats. I'm hardly a total "plane whore" and up to last week didn't touch BF2 for a couple of months because I was playing SF exclusively since it's release. I've played enough on the ground to know how much those cannon and bombs hurt.
However like you, I just suck it up and get on with playing. I don't understand how people can get so damned angry, accuse people of cheating etc, especially adults who (theoretically at least) should know better.
The problem we have here, is when someone appears who happens to be more skilled than anyone else on the opposing team, paranoia sets in, others start getting suspicious, and the innocent who just happens to be a good player starts getting aggravation from the rest of the sheep, or on an admined server, kicked. For no good reason except playing the game to the best of their ability. It's rotten.

I think to answer your question, banning someone because you suspect them of cheating without solid proof is probably a bit harsh to say the least. When we have banned guys for hacking/cheating we have the proof to back it up.

Now if you have proof via say either PB SS or even battle recorder, you can then submit that proof to www.evenbalance.com (the makers of PB) and get those mofos hardware banned, so even if they purchase another copy of BF2 it won't work on their pc.

kicking someone because he just is good isn't the way to go, nd in BF2 , beleive me, there aren't many hackers, you rarely see one.

But, I do understand, if some guy on one team is just like owning the whole time, and the team is just winning constantly because he is tank/jet/chopperwhoring like hell and killing the crap out of the other team giving them no chance , you couyld consider kicking him just to keep the balance between the teams, it's hard, ....

I've had the experience of one of those day's of getting lucky on a server and just getting the jump and quick clean kills, you are definetely "looked at a little closer". I've also had the pleasure of dealing with a lag monster that skips across the ground and is extremely hard to kill. Was the guy cheating? No it was a bad ping to his advantage.
