Battlefield 2: Special Forces causing harddrive corruption?

I have been playing Battlefield 2 since it hit store shelves. Prior to that i was playing joint Operations with expansion pack. So no problems with my Dell system. Anyway, i downloaded BF2 Special Forces from EAS download and keep getting problems from it.

Two major issues i have found with the game.

1. I cant play BF2 maps if im running the Special Forces application. I can see the maps and when i click on them it then turns the screen black and closes the application and brings me back to windows desktop. The only way i can play BF2 maps is if i start the original BF2 application rather than special forces application. As you know, that is a pain!

2. My hard drive has crashed twice as a result of playing Battlefield 2 Special Forces. When i say crash i mean i got a fatal error blue screen and then when i turn on my computer it says windows drivers corrupt. I worked with Dell tech support to try to repair the drivers but couldnt and couldnt even get safe mode to run. It turned out the error caused a corruption on the drive and the hard drive had to be replaced. So i got a new 200gig hard drive and reinstalled everything everyhting (windows, office, itunes, everything). Everything was working great until i redownloaded Special Forces from EA Download Center and about a week after playing the game (which is all i use my computer for) the computer crashed again, same problem except now my new hard drive has this corrupt driver problem. I will be online playing special forces and it will freeze, then i get a blue screen saying fatal error and then it reboots itself to the boot screen where it says cant start windows due to corrupt windows file. Dell says its special forces software that is causing it as the corrupt files include special forces directory in addition to windows32.

Been running SF on my dell since it came out. Not one issue that youa re having.

BUT... I am not using their download stuff. I got a cd version.

i think bf2 giving a lot of people problems.i crash too still havent figure out my problem yet. i know my system can handle bf2.so i dont want to hear upgrade your comp.

my dell has no problem with it whatsoever but then i too got it from the cd, hopefully the booster pack from ea wont have the same problem

I'd put money on the fact that it has absolutely nothing to do with SF.

yeah, I have the downloaded version of SF. My computer is still stable enough.

You might want to re-download it, and don't do anything else with the net while your doing it. I had to re-download it a couple times cause it was corrupted, since I ate into the bandwidth while I was getting it.

I'm doubting the game can affect your /system32 directory however, what you are describing is a faulty hard drive/IDE controller or IDE ribbon cable. Or a virus, viruses can do nasty things, even after a format. They can store themselves in what is called "safe data" storage on your hard drive, kind of like a hidden partition.

Windows can be corrupt in several ways, here is one of the simplest ways, if you have the material, to fix it (oh and BTW, personal Dell support don't know jack sh!t; server support hoever tends to be a little more qualified)

- Boot a different PC with Windows installed and have the hard drive from your system as a slave drive. Verify that your boot priority is properly set (in your BIOS), and once your Windows is booting up, if there is a problem with the drive, it should perform a chkdsk.exe and verify/repair any "file corruption".

If by a weird coincidence the SF is corrupting your HDD, which I still can't see, I would recommend re-downloading the file from EA and retrying the install.

I have a measley AMD 3200 with a Radeon 9800 and I can play SF without a hitch and no crashes ever! strange?

This has got to be the funniest thing i have heard! A single game corrupts a harddrive....LMFAO!
