Quick question - Is there an AGP graphics card out there that is better than my Connect 3D ATI Radeon X800 XL?

but ya, the x850xt and x850xt-pe are better. I havent checked nvidia, but im sure someone will chime in.

Cheers for the response, and your right, the question is - is it worth it? Since you read my other thread about motherboards, you must know buy I'm just toying with some options for upgrading my comp. Upgrading an AGP graphics card would be a short term solution - and probably a waste of money in the long run if I later upgrade my motherboard and and end up buying a PCI-E graphics card.

I think at this point it would be more worth it to upgrade to a 939 board and PCI Express x16

My specs are:

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.2E GHz HT (Prescott)
Motherboard: ECS SF2 (?store bought PC?)
RAM: 2GB PC3200 DDR (single channel) Corsair Value Select
Graphics Card: Connect 3D ATI Radeon X800 XL
Sound Card: Creative Labs Soundblaster Live 24-bit
PSU: Antec Smartpower 400W
OS: XP Home SP2

I've posted another thread about motherboard upgrades - I'm just thinking about further upgrades to my comp. From the responses to this thread and the motherboard thread, I think it would just be better to build one from scratch.

Yea you can build one from scratch which would invetiably be better.

Id go with an AMD chip if your a big gamer.

Games are the main reason I own a PC in the first place, so AMD CPUs are the way to go?

Yeah, they are noticeably better in Gaming and are making a ton of headway in everything else.

Intel is falling behind on, well, everything right now.

A good AMD Dual-Core processor would be a good investment.

I thought dual-core CPUs weren't performing as well at gaming as current top spec single-core CPUs.(?)

Well, perhaps a dual core CPU would out perform my current CPU (which is listed in specs easrlier)

the only other issue about a video card upgrade is the power consumption. I went the ATI route with a x800xt-pe (fastest card at that time), because the nvidia 6800 series cards required quite a bit more power and I only had a antec 380w true-power PS.

The mobile market is still ruled by Intel. But the rest you are correct, The P4 has reached it architechture limit. You will see more mobile tech. in the chips and dual cores.
