CTD before game even starts

When I try and play the game (with no patches attempted) it shows the splash screen, then a full black screen, then crashes to the desktop like nothing ever happened. I've tried reformating my computer and reinstalling, but nothing. I've tried patching with 1.12, but it says "patching failed". I've tried turning my overclocking off, but no help. I've updated my video card to the latest drivers. Help! I have no idea what to do now.

Radeon x850xt with catalyst 6.1 drivers
AMD 64 Athlon 3200+
Corsair DDR400 1gb RAM (2 512mb dual channel)

I have the same problem. Only I had the 1.12 patch installed. Started up and worked perfectly normal two days ago, then yesterday it started crashing to desktop after the BF2 screen for some reason.

Tried installing new monitor drivers and manually set the resolution in the shortcut properties.

Had a BSoD some time before trying to start BF2 yesterday. Don't know if that could have anything to do with it.

Um call me dumb, but whats BSoD stand for? And where are the shortcut properties? :)
