Can't start a singleplyer or LAN game

Hey all, i've been having this problem for a while and I can't seem to figure it out. The game runs fine when I go to join a multiplayer game, but if I try to start up the singleplayer or create a LAN the game just quits to the desktop. I've tried reinstalling the game twice (with sf also) and it doesn't make a difference. Any ideas please?

Specs:
Windows XP SP2
AMD Athlon 2400+
1gig of RAM
Nvidia Geforce 6200 256mb
I've installed all the lastest card drivers as well.

I have the very same problem buddy, multiplayer plays great but try and start a singleplayer and it goes straight to the desktop, very annoying, i started a thread for this but havnt had any replies as yet, come on guys someone must have a fix for this?

winxp sp2
athlon x64 3200+ venice
2gig pc3200(400) ddr ram
nvidia geforce 6200 256mb
80 gig seagate barracuda
Using 81.98 video driver, pb all up to date and all sound drivers up to date! :hmm:

Still not working for me mate? what did you do? or did you just try it again and it worked? did you try uninstalling,reinstalling battlefield?:hmm:

I wanted to play a singleplayer a couple of weeks ago and thats when I noticed it wouldn't work, so I just gave up trying. Now all of a sudden its good . The only thing that I think may have helped is that I uninstalled SF for a bit because it made the game run to slow as I only had a Geforce 5200. I've now upgraded to a 6200 (bout 3 days ago), so I reinstalled SF and it works now.

Oh well, good luck with sorting out your game too. I'll search the web and see if I can find anything useful for ya.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh I spoke too soon!!! It's decided to stop working...

Exactly the same problem.

What I did notice is that I could play SP before I patched but not after, is it possible that I also need to get the server patch due to the iffy way in which BF2 simulates SP?

When exactly does it drop you to desktop...

When you hit the 'Start Game' button to load the map?

Yeh, its when you click on the start button.

yea same ere mate, i hit the join single player button and "wallop" crash straight to desktop? multiplay is magic though? may uninstall reinstall again for the 5th time, grumble, grumble!

When exactly does it drop you to desktop...

When you hit the 'Start Game' button to load the map?

It about 90% (possibly 100%) loads the map and then drops to desktop.
