    The cause of great controversy: Is a gun accurate?

    Many people have different opinions about G3 and PKM, some people claim they can hit very well with either one of them while others claim that they are useless.

    This analysis assumes that user is taking the prone stance with iron sight.

    Basically, all guns in BF2 can be extremely accurate if a some compensation for the deviation cone is used, namely by lowering the aim (for example, just like in CS, aim chest for headshot). the amount of lowering depends heavily on experience, but when achieved, powerful-over-accuracy type of guns (G3, PKM, AK) can be extremely powerful, and can drop you in one shot while you have been shoting at him for 3 seconds.

    I found this out after I realized that G3 has G36C's accuracy in game once proper depression is used.

    I've been using the G3 a lot as of late, and I can confirm what you are saying. The G3 is one of the strongest weapons in th game, but people prefer the G36C because it's a lot easier to master.

      I aim at the head with the AK -47 and -101 and get wonderful results. Same method with the G3 and PKM produce less-than-desirable outcomes.

      Until the AKs (or M16, or F2000, or RPK, or MG36) start failing me, I feel no need to try and "figure out" the magical aiming method to make the G3 or PKM work.

      Frankly I think they both just suck, and those who advocate them are fooling themselves, have low standards, or play on newb servers. Anyone who wants to prove me wrong can link to their stats showing accuracy and K/D, or post a video of the mythical technique.

      DICE upgrading the accuracy on the G3 and the support weapons validates my claim, and totally neuters yours. They are sub-par guns in their current state.

        So, if you never bother to at least try them, how can you say how bad they are? Calling people foolish because they are better at something than you really says something for your personality.

          I have tried them - a lot. I've experimented with the G3 extensively, and it's just not as good. The PKM was my second unlock. Same deal there.

          I'll ignore the rest of your post since it's unfounded and inconsequential.

            Well. Variable has put in a very good arguement. Yes, my K/D ratio suxs, yes, I don't have high accuracy, but I will bet you anything that a very good shot with a PKM or a G3 could kill any sniper from range that he spots.

              I've noticed that, in my experience, the actual ironsights effect how effective I am with the gun. I am useless with guns that have a pistol like sight where as things like the m4 give better results and the F2000 being my favourite for aiming.

                IMHO the g3 is not a gun for everyone, I know a couple of peeps who swear by it, I can't get a hang of it personally, the G36's and the SCAR's are probably the top weapons in the hands of a skilled player, with the AK family following close in 2nd

                  I can post a replay of me going 7-0 with 80 ping. the thing about headshot, is that unless you can reliable headshot everyone (even while running), while my technique allows engagement of everyone

                  DICE's action does not invalidate my statement. game mechanics aren;t changed because certain weapon suck, they are changed to change/promote certain kind of gameplay

                  here is my stats

                    I am sorry, but I don't think your level of arrogance belongs to this forum. I invite you to a challenge. You name a server.

                      Re: The cause of great controversy: Is a gun accurate?

                      There's simply no "trick" to using any gun on single shot. The G3 has a poorbase accuracy, far poorer than the other rifles. Its being given a slight tweak. Being prone and using ironsights do give you an accuracy bonus, but , for example, an m16 will hit closer to the aimed point more often than a g3 simply because it has a better base accuracy.

                      The G3 does get a boost, but its a very small tweak applicable mostly to single shots.

                        I play on the =GzR= clan server almost nightly (I don't have the IP handy while at work; you might look for it at geezergaming.com) - and it even has BR activated.

                        Come on in, and make sure you're on the opposite team. If your ping is bad we can find somewhere more geographically sensitive.

                          let me refine my argument. I am not arguing that G3 has higher base accuracy (In fact I am familiar with all values and can pull them off right of my head

                          base devation: Ak47: 0.45
                          G3 = 0.5
                          PKM = 0.8 (0.512 after prone and ironsight)
                          G36E = 0.25

                          however, I was merely saying that certain technique boost the effective accuracy to a degree that they become very competitive.

                            The G3 is a very good gun... it is used the least compared to its Assault competitors because it doesn't have the nade launcher.
                            I believe that the accuracy is fine but would rather it have an extra clip or two.

                            As for the PKM, I find it hard to hit a target medium to long range... but this is also the same for the rest of the Support guns.

                              I have a KDR of just over 2 using assault rifles. I never use the G3 as it has unreliable accuracy. Hence why they are improving it's accuracy in the up and coming patch! Hopefully then i'll start using it again. Trust me i know how to shoot. Hu.Z of PLA look me up in any tracker ( [FPS]SF.Paddy ) and i'll happily show you up! lol
