7 golden rules running a server

Server settings I think is the best.

    1) Let idle players auto remove!!
    2) Set server to auto kick TK players.
    3) Disable any votes, also because of the vote bug
    4) Disable punish, saves a lot of agression on the server(bad language etc)
    5) RAISE gamestart delay(50-55 sec) so people, with less good pc,
have a opportunity to take off in a plane etc etc.
    6) Do not overmanage the server with to manny rules, for example
    NO BASECAMPING
basecamping in BF2 cant be a problem because you can work in teams with voip so its easy to take out the basecamper.
    7) Running 2 rounds?
Let the teams switch sides, some maps are unbalanced.

Well so far my wish list :)

Good rules. At first I thought I disagreed with #3, but I wouldn't miss votes if they disappeared. They never work anyway.

How about no time-limit and increase the number of tickets?
Most servers have a 12 min time-limit and the default tickets (200-230), which kinda sucks when you are in a good fight and the time runs out.

i really dont like idea #5
its already boring waiting 10 seconds once you join when its already at 15
i didnt buy upgrades to enjoy a minute of waiting

and 50 seconds on round reset would make lots of people disconnect

There are a couple of problems with those rules:

In order for #2 to work #4 must be enabled.

The only way for tk'ers to be auto-admined is if they get punished. No punish and they can tk all they like. Whilst we like to have tkpunish off unfortunately we haven't yet got to the stage where we always have an admin on 24/7 so are forced to keep running the server with tkpunished enabled until we do.

We have #1 and #3 though you can get around being idle, I won't say how. We recently only turned off voting because of the vote bug and people whinging about why there is a vote up for them.

#5 we have set to 30secs, still not ideal for those with pc's with low ram or specs but its better than nothing and 30secs between rounds is not too long, gives you a chance to say gg, go to the toilet, get a drink etc.

#6 we have a few simple rules but unfortunately it adds a helluva lot of work for admins. Mainly the no attacking uncaps till last flag rule. This takes up most of our time and the main offenders are the jet whores who just can't seem to abide by it and they aren't easy to take out by any means. We also have commanders don't fly. Not hard to admin at all.

#7 we have exactly like that, 2 rounds then teamswitched at the end of each round. It does create a few problems, red/blue tag bug seems worse, getting locked in a squad for a round and can't leave and on extreme cases one side can't even create squads which usually means the server needs to be restarted to fix it. Also you need to re-create squads each round. Though we prefer playing both sides of a map, gets boring playing 1 side all the time.

Re: 7 golden rules running a server

                        Couple observations.

I have np with longer start times. Some will compalin, but if you've got 6 clan members in TS/Server together, having the extra time to get the squad in order is nice. ALSO, its about the only time you see people fire off a "GG" after a previous round.

As far as team switching on 2 rounds per map servers, a good idea, but only when DONE RIGHT. We've bailed from countless servers that team switched and destroyed the squad structure, which at times causes guys to get split up on different teams. Let the teams switch sides, but the whole team, keep the squads together / etc...

Also, another rule - no 1 round per map servers. Everytime I look for a server, its always the one's with 1 round per that have open spaces. People don't want to go through the verification process every mapside, and if you end up with a good map that has a strange outcome (one of those 280-0 rounds), then you're done and have to switch to the next map...

And I completely agree on the stupid rules. Clans that have ranked servers but kick for things like "no bunny hopping", "no kick voting clan members", "no base raping", etc.....are crazy.. Its a ranked server, and as far as EA's concerned they are allowed tactics. I find it ironic to see a clan get on people for bunny hopping and then wonder why they get pwnzored in a match by some bunny hopping / dolphin diving clan.... maybe you should practice what you see in matches in pub play, wouldn't hurt would it ? And besides, the great nerf patch is on its way, so points like this will be moot..

way no, i think that all people who paid lots of dollars/euros/pounds/yen whatever need to have a SMALL avantage because then actually pay for it in an indirect way.

EDIT: The plane is mine whooahah , sorry for that

Well prob youre pc will have less lagg then slow pc owners
so you have an advantage anyway.

Every player should start at the same time imo.

I looked at this and some of it seems pretty good. Our server runs each map 2 times, switches teams each round, has a 25 sec start delay, runs normal ticket ratio with ff on (it's ranked) and also has all 64 player versions running on a 32 player server so you get some good fights.

I am curious what setting you need to turn on so that the squad structure stays in place when the map flips sides. I think ours keep them in place, but I cant seem to find it in BF2CC.
