    Server Icon Descriptions

I've only just recently begun playing on Ranked servers online. My friends and I used to play strictly LAN games in Co-Op mode, but since the powers-that-be at EA decided they would remove that lovely component of the game from BF2, I now have to play online.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what all the icons in the server list mean? I'm talking about the symbols just to the left of the server names in the "Join Internet" game list. I'm pretty sure one of them represents the type of server that is hosting the game, but I'm unsure about most of the others. Can anyone tell me what each field is and what the different symbols in each field mean?

    Thanks,
    Tom

The Red or Green bar indicates whether the server requires verification.
The Television icon indicates that the server enables Battlerecorder.
A Microphone icon indicates that the server is VOIP enabled.

A rank badge shows that it is ranked and the little punkbuster icon shows weather there is punkbuster or not.

        Ah the mystery is solved.

I have always wondered about those things.

        The Tux = Linux right?
        64 = 64 bit server?

I had the same questions. For weeks. As a software developer myself, this one ****es me off. The programmers in their infinite wisdom put up a bunch of icons and assume "they'll figure it out". We didn't. Tool tips/rollovers have been around for years, but DICE must have never seen them.

Yet....some everyday stiff that runs BF2S.com manages to implement them properly.

It get worse. The programmers didn't put them in. QA didn't call them on it and reject the build. And the PM didn't give a damn either and let the product thru.

I've got my personal theories on this. That server screen is so poorly constructed that it had to be worked on by a different crew than those that worked on the actual game. Everything about that server screen screams idiot. The filters dont work. Refresh doesn't work. Popups that come up in the opening actually close BF2 and take you to a website instead of providing you with more info. You know those badges you dont have...? Wait you dont...because they just show a darkened image of the badge with no information about what that badge is. Wanna get info on what what badge might be? You have to come here or go to BF2S.

          sigh..

Now here is where it gets tricky. I'll use VOIP and the Battle Recorder icons. Just because they show up in the list that the server has them enabled doesn't mean they actually work properly. Everyone knows that BR is by far the worst for this. Its very easy to just enable it so it shows that the server has it running but when you join you soon find out it doesn't work.

The ranked server icon is another, though its far less common. Basically a server can be ranked, ie using the ranked server code but unless the IP is logged with EA/Gamespy the stats won't be collected/collated.

So be wary thinking that because it has a certain icon, that it is actually the case or that it works.

              haha...

Just because the light is green, it doesn't mean you are safe to drive thru the intersection.

              Just because she looks 18...

              never mind.
