    n00b??

n00b...a word that I hear and read everywhere in accordance to BF2. But what is actually a n00b? What's the definition of a n00b?

    Maybe not the brightest question....

NOOB is actualy newby , but used a lot not only for newby's but also for paople who suck at the game , they are noobs

for example it's also used in terms, like the noob tube , for using the grenade launcher you don't have to aim and it's so easy to kill with , it's used by noobs, the noob tube , get it ?

Anyone who uses 'NOOB' or calls you a 'NOOB' is a 'NOOB'. Only 'NOOBS' say 'NOOB' anymore.

              Oh crap, I am 'NOOB'!!

n00b is more along the lines of an insult to players who are experienced but act like newbies(newbs) by refusing to adapt (see no rush in a fast paced micro RTS game), or just plain can't due to lack of skill even if still trained. It is also common to see people who are agressive, immature, and overall child-like being called a n00b.

Basicaly i see it as a simple replacement for idiot or moron when refering to computer science, culture, and gaming.

I think the wiki definition is right on. If you get called a n00b, you probably ran over someone's mine or tried to TK them through the chopper canopy with an M24. :p

                        Re: n00b??

Yeah, wiki is pretty good. For those who can't be bothered to click the link :

In online gaming, the term is also often used as a general insult. Frustrated players on the losing team may refer to the winning team as noobs. In this case there is no actual connotation of newness meant; the word is simply being used as an insult.
By the same token, members of a dominating team may use the term "noobs" (n00bs) to further frustrate their opposition by implying a general lack of skill on the losing team's part, such as camping (staying in the general vicinity, usually a spawn point, for an extended period of time) or wastefully firing at a wall, wasting ammunition and time. Noob might also be used by veteran players to criticize cheap tactics or overusage of unbalanced weaponry.

In an online team game where friendly fire is turned off, a noob "tactic" would be to overuse explosives in cramped areas around fellow teammates. Noob usually applies in games where team-play is important, and the players choose to completely ignore the team structure and goals. Some other "noobs" are players who overly use vehicles and "uber weapons" to defeat other players, players who "kill-steal" from others, and players who scam others into losing their items or money.

                          Re: n00b??

                          Noob action examples:

Taking off in an empty transport while teammates are screaming "I need a ride".

Coming to friendly mines with openings to the left and right, but choosing to go straight down the middile... Boom.

Solving every encounter with enemy troops through the use of point blank grenade launcher work.

Constantly spraying and parying in full auto, then complaining about how much this game sucks because you can't hit anything.

                          Backing over friendlies.

Rushing into the big red circle.

Another term you should shake hands with is "griefer". You can switch the word freely with arsehole. A griefer is someone who exploits issues in the engine in order to tweak other people off or to gain something at the expence of their team.
                          Example actions:

                          TKing for vehicles.

Tking intentionally, just because it amuses you.

                          Flashbanging friendlies (on purpose).

Exploiting the (now well known) mesh whole on Karkand.

                          Then there's just the idiots...
Commanders that don't command because they are too busy flying/acting like Rambo.

Plane whores that can't be bothered to ever chase an enemy plane.

Anyone who doesn't think that working with your team is important.

Squad Leaders who flatly refuse to accept and order to attack a nearby CP with no defenders, but instead repeatedly throw themselves at the one point that they ENTIRE enemy team is holding.

People who refuse to abide by local server rules, then get mad when they get kicked out.

Hope this sheds some light on the termanology of the nature of players fer ya.

Interesting - N.U.B. is actually a Navy acronym. Now the stupid spelling makes some sense.
