and it gets to the join game part and then shuts BF2 down...why?

By any chance are you loading this up in singleplayer? It won't work there; otherwise I don't have a clue.

ahh yeah haha i forgot it wouldnt work in singleplayer...well since your here..my multiplayer wont work for some reason...i keep getting errors such as need to upgrade patch and such but yet i have...im going to try again..thanks

Are you sure you've downloaded Patch 1.12 and not an earlier version? Does the error say something along the lines of "This server only uses unmodified content" ?

EDIT: Here's a good singleplayer mod (BF2SP64). Lets you play the 64 player maps with bots in singleplayer.
