I already have everything, and got all the SF unlocks the first minute I had SF...which is why I don't know the answer to this question:

A friend just passed 8000 points and will be selecting his next unlock...he does NOT have SF yet, but will in a few days. I told him to save the unlock for now.

If he chooses to unlock the G3 from the Assault class in BF2, does that mean the F2000 is unlocked when he installs SF, or will he have to use another unlock to get it? And if so, will he have a free unlock available since he has 8k after choosing the G3?

well, he'll get 3 unlocks from SF, because 8000 points means they are a gunnery sgt...you get unlocks from SF starting at sgt in normal bf2. 1 Sf unlcok for sgt, 1 sf unlock for staff sgt, and 1 more for gunny.

You have to unlock a vanilla bf2 weapon before you can unlock its SF counterpart. you do not have to use these unlocks for SF weapons though...they can be used to unlock normal bf2 guns instead

When he installs SF, he will lose all hit points, stats, and awards as well as unlocks. Further, his drive will explode and set fire to his computer and the desk it's sitting on.

I thought SF came with a free unlock for buying the expansion so would he get 4 unlocks? the 3 for sgt and 1 for the game?

No, but due the the number of lawsuits currently being filed over burned out computers and scorched desks, SF now comes with fire insurance!

The way it works is very simple... try ta keep up;
SF gives you 1 unlock for every rank above and including Sergeant. After the patch, you will also get SF unlocks for the Lance Corporal and Corporal ranks.
These unlocks are in addition to normal BF2 unlocks. There is no difference. You can use unlocks for whatever toy ya wanna play with. The only catch is that you must have the normal BF2 unlock before you can spend one on a SF toy.

Not so hard to grasp, is it?
