If you are playing DirectX games on Windows 2000, You are MISSING OUT!

So, my normal windows install is Windows 2000 Professional SP4.

Its a great OS. Its stable, secure for what it is, and its a better interface for the aspiring systems/network administrator.

However, I've come to realize it handles DirectX games like CRAP.

I have a trial copy of Windows XP Professional SP2 that i got with my MCP 70-270 book for school. (installing, managing, and administrating Windows XP Pro)

So i install it, install the ATI 6.1's, set the settings exactly like i had it in Windows 2000. and HOLY **** the difference!

My graphics are much more crispt and clear, much better looking than the blandness i got with 2000Pro. I alway sthought my X800 Pro was a complete peice, but I think 2000 was simply holding it back from its full potential.

Ill be honest, i mostly hated XP before now, but for games its obviously the best windows platform to use.

PS- I still hate Home Edition.

Perhaps because Battlefield 2 has Win XP as a system requirement? ;]]

yeah it probably has more to do with bf2 specifically than all games.

As for XP Home yeah i personally wouldn't use it but only because it has no default administrator account and has no facility to join a domain (although you can use a p[rogram to get around that) other than that it is exactly the same.

No there is a LOT more difference than that.

Mostly security features, but one biggie is EFS on Pro, not on Home.

Also, XP is required because its built on NT technology. Everyone knows that 2000 CAN run ANY game that XP can as long as the game itself doesnt purposefully check the OS. The core technology of the two are the same. Im guessing *something* to do with XP has up-to-date technology concerning DirectX that was never built into 2000.

                oh well.

guess u can always keep XP on one partition and 2000 on another.

Thats how I've got it right now.

Eventually im going to split one of the partitions and install 2003 Server R2 so i can practice with it.

The main reason is that 2000 still runs pretty much any XP program out there, and i'd rather spend the money on hardware than an OS i couldnt justify for so long.

I'll be buying a XP license when my trial is up in 4 months, however.
