Battlefield crushing and rebooting my PC

Alright, this might look very similiar to many other help requests, but it isn't.

I've been playing BF2 for the past 3 months without any problem, everything worked nice. But when I was playing today, suddenly my PC rebooted, some five minutes after I joined the server and until now, it's been rebooting around 5 Minutes after I've joined a server and started to play. There's no blue or black screen, no error message, nothing. It just reboots.

I've already defragmented my PC, downloaded the newest Drivers (Catalyst 6.1), disabled EAX, changed the resolution and so on, but nothing would fix the problem.

    My system:

    AMD 64 2800+

    1024 MB RAM

    Radeon 9800 Pro

    Windows 2000

If somebody has had the same problem and/or knows how to fix this issue, I'd be glad for any help.

Thx in advance and excuse my English

Re: Battlefield crushing and rebooting my PC

punkbusters new update has been causing win2k users machines to reboot or recieve BSOD.

For XP users, it seems to take a huge munch out of our FPS (skipping/jerkyness) and increase ping times.

Thanks alot t_c, I actually expected an answer like this, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't me. Well, no use of further complaint, I just hope that the guys at PB fix this damn problem.

        Thx again.

Re: Battlefield crushing and rebooting my PC

This started happening to me too - yesterday. Within a minute of joining multiplayer games, i get a blue screen with "STOP 0x000000CA - plug and play error" and instant reboot.

I'm running Win2K - but with no problems until yesterday (Jan 27).

I've uninstalled BF2 and all video drivers, etc. and tried different drivers - twice - but then it started to just freeze when I went to join a server. The thing that helped for a little while was uninstalling my profile - that at least allowed me to get back into the game but within a minute or two, blue screen again!

I'm glad to see that it isn't me - please if anyone finds a fix or anything let us all know - i've gone to PB to fill out a support ticket at least...

They had an update on Friday as someone mentioned before. This is from the PB site:

            Friday 01.27.2006 [1:00PM]

Version 1.225 of the PB Client for BF2 has been released to our PB Master Servers for auto-update and to our website download page. This is a maintenance release.

            Good luck all!

redearedslider, I bet you're not using Win 2000.

Re: Battlefield crushing and rebooting my PC

I posted a ticket for punkbuster support and they suggested I type "pb_sleep 500" in the console after joining an online game. I did so and now I don't have the horrible performance issues.

I also read the following in this forum:
I just recieved an update from Punkbuster, from the support ticket as follows:
                  01/28/2006 20:36:50 - "Stuart Dunsmore"
Note #2: Grab the 1.127 update using PBSetup

and wait for servers to upgrade to the new client.

Hopefully one of the two things noted above will help. I believe w2k machines crash with the blue screen of death and XP machines have horrible performance.

Re: Battlefield crushing and rebooting my PC

Is there any solution yet? I've heard of players getting "beta pb.dlls" from the PB-support, which seem to resolve the problem. Does anyone have such a file? If so, I was glad if he sent it to me.

Re: Battlefield crushing and rebooting my PC

PunkBuster released a new update which should solve its issues. BF downloads it automatically. In case it does not: <click>

                        Seems to work...
