Is Bf2 killing my computer?

I'm new to Bf2 Online... But, I have been playing alot since I started (sometimes all night). Suddenly I'm getting booted bigtime, like "blue screen and memory dump". It happens everytime, and ONLY at the point where I join the game/server. I can spend all kinds of time browsing thru servers, trying to decide where to go, but once I join... bang!!! Here are some vital statistics: Microsoft Wndws 2000, AMD Sempron Processor 2600, 524MB ram, NVIDIA G Force FX 5700LE w/256MB Ram. I know it's not a barn burner, but it was working fine. Oh yeah... finally, the message on the blue- screen said, "Plug and Play detected an error most likely caused by a faulty driver." I reinstalled Battlefield2, I updated my graphics card drivers, I tried using a different CD drive for the game disc... Uhhhmm... That's all I can think of. Let me restate, this only happens in this one situation, doing this one thing. I can use the computer all day doing other stuff... never happens till I join then it happens every time. If there is any advice out there I could really use it. I'm pulling out my hair (and there's little enough of that already!).

I posted this question somewhere else and another person posted this responce. It seems to implicate a broader problem.

This same exact problem is happening to me and my uncle. If you check the punkbuster website you will see that they updated punkbuster friday at 1PM which is when this whole problem started happening.

A friend and I are also having the same problem and we're blaming the latest punkbuster update as well. I'm starting to think that it is an incompatibility with Windows 2000 because a number of people that have reported this problem said that they are running that OS and my friend and I are as well.

upgrad ur ram and video card ur video is fine the minuim is 512

I am having the same issues with a similar system and Windows 2000. It all has to do with an error in the latest Punkbuster Update. I went in and found a non Punkbuster site and the game ran perfect. I played for an hour with no issues. No lagg, choppiness or anything. I was on a game with 30 other players so there were plenty of people on their sucking up resources and the game was fine. Hopefully they'll get it fixed so we can all play on the ranked servers again with PunkBuster. Just FYI to a very frustrating situation. Patience is the only thing to help us now.

I also get this blue screen of death issue. I wonder how wide spread it really is.

I'm sick of Punkbuster updates screwing everything up! I just wasted hours reinstalling BF2 and then Windows as nothing else worked, and it's still broken!

Since last night I can't have a game either. My PC just reboots. No BSOD or warning. Only happens when I've joined an online game.

I appreciate all the posts; man this thing is discouraging. How do you find non-Punkbuster servers? I tried unchecking PunkBuster in the filters and updating, but still got Punkbuster sites.

If PunkBuster is listening: Please, rework your update!!!

First of all, Thanks for all the replies! I regret the problem that is much more widespread then I initially realized. I brought up this question on another forum and have been amazed at how many people are affected by what is appearently a PunkBuster problem. Possibly connected to conflicts with their most recent updates and (maybe) Windows 2000. Unless some of you having same issue don't have Windows 2000.?.
Anyway, until PunkBuster re-updates or fixes this problem I don't see any help except playing NON PunkBuster servers (few and far between).

From what I'm hearing from different sources, it looks like some PC's just reboot and others get the BSOD, but both problems started at the same time.

So many problems happening. I'm seeing everywhere on every forum.

Webmaster, can you stickey this problem? People just keep asking the same thing over and over.

It is deffinitely PunkBuster.

For Windows 2000 it crashes your computer.
For Windows XP there seems to be massive frame rate fallout.

I have recently been having shtdown problems as well... I can from school friday, and played abit, and bang! My PC shutsdown and no erreor messages reported in boot, and I think it may be a power surge, but im not sure ? I read a forum and people say it happens after you play for about 2 months. but that is odd, any comments?
-EA should have waited and released a good version, I'd be glad to wait because this is causeing a lot of prob.'s and wasting my time.
