i have had a message back off them. asking what i have running in the back ground.

So i told them then put that i had seen this was a problem in many forums.
Nice too see they answer a question as if its the first one they have heard about.


Should we message EA too?

I had the same reply, but I told them my single player does not skip (the real single player, with 16 player map).

just emailed EA too see what happens. last time i thought it was my PC but found out the servers where buggered.

Hope they sort it out i so wanna play. its driving me made.

Might have to go play Medal of Honor Pacific Assault if it carrys on or COD2.

just had another email back saying disable my Avast anti virus from boot up didnt tell me how too....lol.... lucky i know msconfig. and funny enought it didnt fix it. what a suprise. i mean if it worked last night and doesnt know why would it be my anti virus . bloody idiots.

Just disabled my antivirus, and I got no skipping!! I have NOD32, what do you guys use??

cassidyuk, if you have skipping in singleplayer your problem is different.

also, i dont run any anti virus because i know it causes these kinds of problems, but it still just started skipping randomly at the start of a match and stops after a minute or two.

i think people are confusing lag with skipping.

mine and lots of others ARENT laggy, our frame rate stays high, but it just goes CLICK skip click skip you know, like a mini freeze every second or so.

i've got a major decrease in framerates... along with alot of other guys....... punkbuster orrr ??? 3dmark score still the same...

Me 2, ping shoots up occasionaly from 20ish to 70, seems to be jerky. Only today.

YEAH YESTERDAY EVERYTHING WAS FINE MAN... I CAN CRY OVER THIS LOL .... WHY IN THE WEEKEND ??? seriously a 30 framerate decrease....

Disabling antivirus worked for me, but after playing a while, it seemed to start skipping again.

A new PB update has just been released, v1.227. Try downloading it and see if it helps you. I use PBSetup, which you can get at the following URL:

punkbuster has released a new update -- Saturday 01.28.2006 [6:30PM], Version 1.227

so far I do not notice any hitching or extreme lag like the previous version..

Wait and see what happens I guess..

and EA make the worst ****ing patches ever, it took about 10 attempts to repatch my BF2 without the exe disappearing or the patch just deciding to fail half way through.

Look, any programs running in the background are irrelevant. I have been playing BF2 without a problem since it was released with the same background programs and processes that are running at the moment. I have not had a problem for the last 7 months, all of a sudden you guys release an update to punk buster and everything goes to hell!

My brother who is running a completely different machine with different software also all of a sudden experiences the same problem, not to mention all the people complaining at totalbf2.com.

Using the pb_sleep 500 command alleviates the problem but there is still stutter every 2 seconds or so, which in my view still makes the damn game unplayable.

What is running in the background is VERY relevent when those programs interfear and interrupt what PB does. The lag is caused by PB trying to do something fast, which on most systems has no effect at all because what it does is small and quick. But then AV and Firewall programs interrupt PB and run thier own checks EVERY TIME pb does this check. Multiplying the system resources used expontially. So, what is run is very important, as it is the very cause for the lag. But due to the large complaints and little reward for this new change, we let the hackers win this one. Get the new 1.127 update.

Well to me and other users its not relevant given that IT WAS WORKING FINE UNTIL YOU RELEASED THE DAMN PATCH THE BORKED BF2! In any event this latest patch appears to have fixed the problem. I and others would appreciate it if you properly tested your patches in the future before releasing them
