    Multiplayer Games reboots my system

My system keeps rebooting everytime I try to play an online (multiplayer) game. I have installed all of the patches and have played the game several times with no issues. I can connect to the server and even join the server. However When I join the game it then goes to a blue screen with error message and then starts to re-boot my system. I can play the game just fine in single player mode, but not in multiplayer. I have made no changes to my system and it is set up the same way and I've been playing the game online fine hundreds of times until today, just minutes ago. My system is P4 2.4 mhz, 512 MB DDR400, Nvidia FX 5200, Windows 2000 OS. Never had any issues with game play. Did I miss a new patch this week? Can anyone out there help me? Please help me because I am stuck. Thanks

Are you getting STOP 0x000000CA bluescreen?
Happened to me about an hour ago, only punkbuster files changed since then.
Maybe their new wc001225.dll causes such behaviour?

I'm reading that a lot of people are having performance issues arcoss the board caused by Punkbuster not working right. I don't need to update my Windows, I checked and no new updates. System wise I could use more RAm and a new vid card but it worked fine before, new stuff would only enhance my over all graphics quality and performance, but for the most part it ran flawlessly. I betting on the Punkbuster issue and I'll wait to see what fixes will be put in place. Just too many people having weird issues that all started today out of the blue

Just today BF2 and SF both started to reboot the computer- just out of the blue. You can sign onto a game, browse, etc. Login, start to play and blam, a reboot. No diagnostics, not blue screen with an error number just a hard reboot. I've removed the cache of BF2, reoptimized, updated my ATI drivers, crapcleaned, etc but still the same deal. Hope this is just something temporal but it's VERY annoying.

Has anyone solved the problem yet? I'm pretty curious about this, because since yesterdey I've got the same problem...

It appeared all out of the blue. I can join multiplayer games, join, play a few seconds and *baaam* bluescreen. Less than a second later my PC is rebooting.

So basically what you guys have too. Any new news?

Thank you t_c for your very quick reply!

I've tried a manual pb update a short while ago but that didn't helped. But I expected that as those files were released yesterday. :|:

All in all the links you've posted pretty much summed up at least my problem (I'm a Win2k user too). Looks like pb is really messing BF2 up... damn PunkBuster...

Thank you again! I'll have an eye on the other thread too!

You should go to evenbalance and download PBSetup- use it to update your BF2 PB version (to Saturday released version 1.227 I believe). It fixed me right up! (MS WIndows 2K)

I have been having the same exact problem also.
                        My specs are
                        500W PSU
                        6800GT 256mb
                        2gigs ram
                        3.0P4 HT
                        160GB IDE HD

Let me first start off and say this problem has been happening to me whenever I play Special Forces after a while and not regular BF2. My pc is 1 year old and I have been playing BF2 since it came out fine. It was when I got SF that I encountered problems. I had the problem installing the 1.1 patch which froze so I restarted my pc and then installed the 1.2 patch and the game played fine for a while. After about a couple of weeks, my pc kept restarting whenever I was playing SF or BF2 regular now and would do the disk check then come back on or reboot again until I finally could get on for a while before it happened again. This also happened whenever I tried to defrag my pc or play any other games besides BF2. I took it to some people I know at a pc repair place and they figured my Harddrive was dying and it is only a 1 year old harddrive.

So I took it to the person who built it for me and he said it was the hard drive also. So I replaced that one with a brand new one and when I got it, I reinstalled BF2 and SF. Had the same lock up during installing 1.1 patch, so I restarted my pc and it loaded fine the next time and then I played SF. After
about 3 days, my game shut off suddenly when I was in a multiplayer game in SF and restarted again and then it came up with an irror message which said what the guy posted above. So I d/led newer drivers for the game and the same problem happened again and again. And now, the guy who built my pc said he went into safe mode and said I must of been shutting my pc off during the windows updates which I have never done. I also had up to date drivers as well which were the 8.94 or 5.

I also don't think reinstalling it would help because my pc might shut off again suddenly.

I am sure I can still play regular BF2 fine, but it is SF which is doing something.

I could use help bad because I want to play SF, but I don't want to risk installing it until I get an answer.

O, and also after I got my new hard drive , whenever I had my pc restart, it made a weird, errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound which kind of sounded like metal bulkling or bending under a lot of weight. Anyone have this or know what this could be? This happened when I got my pc back and not when I originally played the game with my old hard drive.
