I wouldn't suggest turning OFF your firewall etc imo.
I use ZoneAlarms thingy and it lets me say yes or no to certain programs.
If you have the patch on a disk, you may need to re-instal the actual game.

Obviously if you get the same problem there then it isn't an internet type fault, but more likely something on your PC. Are you running loads of stuff in the background?
I assume you know the cont+alt+del thing.
Shut down everything you don't need for the game and try again.

What he said^ dont turn off ure Firewall chief, just allow the BF2 ports access. If its performance issues you have check out the http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_1.html web site for info on turning off uneeded background processes and optimising for peformance. Its a bit of a long slog though...
Well mate, my card is Nvidia and I turn off the nvidia wotsname that insisted on installing itself when I fitted the (expensive) card.

is that just for ATI users? I deleted everything under my username exept explorer.exe in the processes tab
R U using Task manager to stop apps/processes running? Not the best way imo:hmm: Have a look at the site I gave you it will answer a lot of your quiries.
My game used to random crash on sounds. I had an unsupported sound card when the game came out (audigy 2nx), so I turned off EAX and HW acceleration in the game options>sound options. It worked, but I later upgraded my soundcard to a supported one.
im not sure what you have tryed but make sure you are keeping track of what you have done to try and fix it.
you could try it this way.
1. Uninstall BF2/SF
2. Delete any folders relating to BF2 (in program files & my documents)
3. restart
4. install the latest drivers for everything
5. scan your computer for viruses
6. scan your computer for spyware
7. Defragment your computer
8. restart
9. install BF2
10. install SF
11. install Patch
12. restart
13. disable your firewall
14. disable your virus scanner
You can try that but honestly, think twice about doing 13. and 14 !!!!
These days it is SSOOOOO EASY to pick up something nasty even if you are using a dialup, let alone broadband.
i remember when i gots a nex graphix card and singleplayer and creat local under multiplayer would crash back to desktop so i uninstalled and reinstalled and it fixed the problem.
