how to check if ports are open?

i'm having a problem with my BFHQ, it keeps displaying 0's everywhere. I e-mailed EA Support, and they told me the connection to the account server itself is having connection troubles and that i need to check if the following ports are open:

6667 (IRC)
3783 (Voice Chat Port)
27900 (Master Server UDP Heartbeat)
28900 (Master Server List Request)
29900 (GP Connection Manager)
29901 (GP Search Manager)
13139 (Custom UDP Pings)
6515 (Dplay UDP)
6500 (Query Port)

the problem is, i don't really know much about computers, and have no idea how to check if those ports are open.

If you're running a software firewall (e.g. ZoneAlarm, Symantec Internet Security), turn it off.

Otherwise...if may be the firewall in your router causing the problem.

i still have the problem with my software firewall off, and yes, i know how to get to the router's con screen

Ok, then try and find the Port Forwarding section (may also be called 'Virtual Server' or 'Games and Applications') and try forwarding (or triggering if you don't have enough forwarding entries) those ports.

EDIT: Oh, and may I ask what software firewall you're running? Most software firewalls actually have drivers that remain running even when the firewall is off, and this can severely interfere with BF2. ZoneAlarm is such an example (newer versions).
