Does different refresh rates have any effect on framerate? My refresh rate is at 60hz right now.

think of it like this. The refresh rate is the max fps the moniter can support. But, it is only capped if vsync is turned on. If you get over that FPS, you will notice horizontal refresh lines going across the screen when your fps is above that of the refresh rate. people might think its awesome because you get super high FPS, but it looks horrible. By turning on vsync, your FPS is capped at the refresh rate, and it makes the image much better looking. you want a higher refresh rate, that way the horizontal lines dont appear as much.Comment

My was at 60 before i turned it to 75 and then i got up to 100 without any difference.Comment

refreshrate won't do anything about your FPS in the game .
This is mostly higher then your FPS, or high enough to never notice it .
Turing Vsync on, then will it have influence on the FPS , most vidcards find Vsync hard , and you get performance loss .Comment

flat panels are sketchy when it comes to sync....almost universally they should be run at their default (or lower), with these baby’s it really is a matter of getting what you pay for.Comment

but with flats you don't realy have to wurry about the refresh rate because it works diffirent then CRT .
CRT have a real refresh rate of themselves , TFT, LCD goes from one image to another without flikkeringComment

my 17" LCD runs @ 75Hz on 1280x1024 VSync on. if u notice when ur refresh rate is at 60 it strains ur eyes & the image seems to be slow, move to 75 or higher (depends if monitor supports higher values) & ur eyes will feel better & image quality/games will play faster.Comment

When vsync is on your maximum frames per second can not exceed your monitor refresh rate.
If your system performance dips below your monitor refresh rate (with vsync on), DirectX will limit your maximum fps to 1/2 of your refresh rate.
So with vsync on and refresh set at 60hz, your video card will not render more than 60 frames per second. If performance dips below 60fps your maximum fps will be halfed to 30 fps by direct X.
This is one reason vsync benefits from higher refresh rates. Half of 60hz is 30hz or 30fps which is quite low and it's easy to notice the dip. Half of 100hz is 50fps, quite a difference with vsync on.
Vsync prevents image tearing, but it can effect frame rates.
Forgot to mention, Enabling triple buffering can mediate some of the fps loss of vsync.Comment

I havent noticed the 30fps thing, but it might be happening. I dont turn on triple buffering because I dont do things that will strain the cards. vsync just caps, nothing else.
