Completely freezing after joining a server!

Almost everytime I join a server, BF2 completly freezes after a few seconds. I have contacted EA CS, but they didn't help fix the problem and now I think they are ignoring me.

I have all the latest drivers

    DVD version of BF2

    Windows XP Prof

    ComCast

    A64 3000+ Venice

    Leadtek PX6600GT 128MB PCI~E

    Corsair ValueSelect 1GB

    80GB 7200 RPM 8MB HDD

    Chaintech NForce4 Ultra ATX MOBO

The only firewalls and anti virus programs I have running is Windows Firewall and McAfee. Anyways my friend turned off his firewall for a few minutes and got about eight viruses.

I'm not sure what you mean. A few seconds after I spawn, my game just stops. I don't get any errors or anything, just a frozen screen. I can't alt-tab out of it, or anything similar, so I have to restart my computer with the button.

My moms friend went to some website, the address only had numbers in it. Something like www.954.457.com OK, those were just random numbers, but it was something to that effect. Then he unlocked the ports, but BF2 still froze. Is that all for opening ports, or are there more steps?

lol okay so its not an internet problem. which means opening ports wont do jack. also, he didnt go to a website, he went to your router's IP address, but dont worry about that. did the numbers look like "192"168.1.1"? lol.
this is either a problem with the game installation, your hardware or your drivers. It could be anything. I recommend installing all the latest drivers for your hard ware, and making sure everything is configured right, make sure you arent running too many background processes and try again. If it still doesnt work uninstall the game, reinstall and reopatch and try again. Hopefully this will help, and please, if I am wrong about any of this and someone knows the answer feel free to tell him the right way to do it. But there is no harm in what I am telling you and it is your best bet.

When it freezes, is it at the map screen? Does it appear that the game is still on going, as in sounds can be heard and sometimes, in the background, you can see ppl. or vehicles moving? Or is it a total lockup and nothing happens, no sound, no image, nothing? I have the first problem and it sounds like the same thing? Does single player work okay?

                Try this:

Create another online profile and try to log in with that one. Post back your results. I did this and it sort of solved my problem with online play. Doesn't help the profile that I had already, but at least I can play online.

                  The Horror The Horror !

get that turned off now and get a proper one... mcafee may well do a free one but sytec certainly do and its shedloads better than that windows POS

when its on make sure BF2 have server rights and access rights... then try it again. many of us get a little lagg/freeze when we first join a server specially with spec forces but it goes after about 5/10 secs.

Re: Completely freezing after joining a server!

sackynut- I already tried all of that. Thats all noob stuff.

Darus- My posts should answere that question pretty welll, but I'll be nice and copy/paste it for you.

I'm not sure what you mean. A few seconds after I spawn, my game just stops. I don't get any errors or anything, just a frozen screen. I can't alt-tab out of it, or anything similar, so I have to restart my computer with the button.

As for the sound I can still hear a flag and a helicopter in the backround if I turn my volume high enough, but that's all.

Oh yea, single player works great, except it's just not very fun.

BigFinger- Will getting a (real) firewall make the game work?

As for OverHeating I will go to BestBuy on Saturday and get some new case fans, aswell as get a new copy of BF2 and hopefully that will work.

I posted in some other forums and someone told me that it is probably my chipset. Here is some more info on it if you need it.

                    VNF4 Zenith Value Edition
                    NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra chipset
                    CHAINTECH

If that's not specific enough then here's more info about my MB so maybe it could narrow the choices down.

AMD Socket 939 Athlon 64/64 FX
HyperTransport bandwidth allows for up to 1GHz (2000MT/s) CPU-Northbridge link and Dual-Channel memory architecture.
                    It also features PCI-E x16, PCI-E x1, GbE, 7.1CH Audio, SATA2(300Mb/s)

Re: Completely freezing after joining a server!

Update/bump-I uninstalled the game using instructions EA sent me. I had to delete everything manually, and apperantly it was the only way to fully uninstall BF2. I tried it and I could play for about 10-20 minutes until my computer froze

Sorry for making any attempt at trying to help diagnose the problem...

If you really think a couple of case fans and another copy of BF2 are going to solve your problems, then the problem isn't BF2 or your computer, it's the person sitting in front of it.

Well I can try can't I? Anyways I wasn't trying to be rude before.

BigFinger- For the router isn't it the 192"168.1.1 thing? Like you enter that into the address bar, and then you can mess with your router there. My moms... friend tried to open the ports, but it didn't work.
