badges before rank?

i am close to reaching the 20000 mark and have all the badges except for the explosive i read a thread the other day and they said if you dont have the badge by 20000 it doesnt matter when you get the bdage you have to wait till the 50000 badge is this true? do you only have one oppurtunity to get them?

For the rank of first sgt, you must have the needed badges to get promoted to the rank instead of master sgt. I do not fully believe you need the explosives badge (dont quote me on that though), I think it is only the kit badges and the knife and pistol badge.

But it is true, that if you dont have the badges before the 20000 mark, you will only get to master sgt and if you want the rank of sgt major at the 50,000 mark, you have to get the needed badges for that rank.

im not being an ******* here but how do u get 20,000 and not already have all ur basics? its even worse seeing the rank with the circles in them. but maybe thats just me...

It comes down to style of play. I have almost 15000 points, but still have not got the pistol, knife, and explosive ordinance badge. I much prefer to dispatch everyone with my DAO-12. Sure, I get a few knife and pistol kills here and there, but for the most part I just use my main kit gun....

I really think those badges are ones you have to specifically TRY to get in a round. I would recommend a high traffic map like Karkand for knife, pistol, and explosive ordinance badges.

You dont need your explosive ordinance bagde for First Sargeant just the basic combat ones.

A couple days ago I received my Master Sergeant, so from what I've read here... I will be unable to receive promotion to First Sergeant eh?

That's correct. It's currently impossible to move from Master Sgt to First Sgt.

Just to check, you can go from Master Sergeant to Sergeant Major if you have the correct awards, yes?

A First Sgt will beat a Master Sgt when going for commander. They also use different chevrons. I don't know the point. A reward for getting the badges I guess.

I think the first srgt looks better in game than master (icon wise). However master is a rarer breed. I diddnt know about the commander preference, is that true? i just assumed it was only title thing rather than any real advantage.
I went on a badge hunt when i got to about 15000, mainly cos i got bored, i only found bf2s after i couldnt work out how to get knife and ground and also found this place in the process.
I have to say the badge hunt did force me to learn each kit and that you can play defence and score the same. I think its a good thing to encourage players to try new things rather than be a 24/7 karkand medic and get the promotions for little effort. Im comfortable jumping into any kit now, although i still have my preferences. Overall getting the stats to be a first srgt deffinately helped prolong my interest in the game.

The rank system is based on the USMC ranking system, which has various pay grades (enlisted ranks starting at E-1 up to E-9). At E-8 and E-9 there are two different ranks attainable even though the pay grade is the same. Master and Master Gunnery Sergeants are specialists and retain their MOS whereas First Sergeants and Sergeant Majors take on command roles.
