Optimizations?

I see people, with like 6600GT's out scoring my 6800, and they claim, to optimize they're drivers, and everything....and im wondering what you guys do to make it work so well, and i dont mean overclocking, i wont try that till i have money to pay for a dead computer.... btw my system is

Dell XPS 400
Intel Dual Core 2.8
1 GB Ram
NVidia 256MB 6800(non gt)

and well, i can run CSS on all high and AA/AF x4, but in BF2, im some options on mid, and some on low, if i go with the recommened settings i get really bad video lag.....

hmmm thanks for the info man, but i didnt really find anything that would increase preformance.....a couple months back, i tried over clocking, and i saw a GREAT improvement, but i crashed after almost 30 mins of playing ANY game....so i decided to stop for my money's sake, note: i am on stock cooling......do you guys have anyother tips for better preformance, besides overclocking?

just a tip... next time dont buy a DELL pc... they ask way too much money for performance that you can get for less money... not that you dont have a good pc or something :P just a tip for your next pc

There's nothing wrong with overclocking and the game. If it was crashing, it means that it wasn't stable. If you take your time and do it right, it can be very stable.

hmmm, my stock settings are: 325/594.... i push it up to 350/630.....is that to high for an overclock? or was it really the game/clock?

and redearedslider, i was thinking of that, but i didnt find a place that had good components and good quality for good $$$$.....so, it came down to dell.....if i could build trust me i wouldnt have gotten a dell, but i cant:hmm:

Not always the case...I bought a Dell 4600, 3.0ghz,1mb DDR Ram, Radeon 9800, dvd-rom, cdrw 13 months ago for about $400 shipped. Works great. Of course,new games require new hardware, so a Radeon x850 256 mb card was added last month ($200). You'd have been hard pressed to come up with a comparable custom built system for $400 a year ago.

I built plenty of custom rigs myself and at that time, for price vs. power, Dell couldn't be touched. Plus I got a warranty...

Research isthe key to getting a great deal.

For the best drivers I'd recommend the Xtreme-G drivers, which are optimized for gaming. You can get them from tweaksrus.com :)

You mention that other cards "outscores" yours, I assume you mean in 3DMark? Beware that 3DMark doesn't have profiles for the new Beta 82.xx drivers, so if you want a good score there use the 81.98 version. The 82.xx rocks in BF2 though!

I have a 6800GT stock clocks are 350/1000, I also use Xtreme-G drivers. When overclocking if I use "Detect Optimal Frequencies" it sets at 426\1150
and I get some artifacts & frezzing in 3dMark benches and my card gets to hot. I have to back it off to 418\1130 to make it through benches & my card gets a little to warm for my comfort. So I run my card OC'd at 410\1100 most of the time with no problems.

If your game starts crashing after you've OC'd all you need to do is lower the clock speeds..

My 6800 (vanilla) has been very good to me, I average a steady 35 FPS in SF and 55+ in BF2 vanilla.. my settings are Everything high, except dynamics whic are at medium, as well as lighting and texture filtering.

2xaa and 1280x1204 resolution.. smooth as a baby's bottom.

Try the latest driver's from nVidia' site, I'm using those.. try a Defrag, and a spyware/ad-ware virus scan.

I tried those XG drivers and wasn't too impressed by them. I used the same versions of the drivers, regular from nvidia and XG drivers, and I got better fps on bf2 with the stocknvidia ones. I am not sure exactly what "tweaking" the drivers are suppose to do, but they don't seem to work better for me in bf2. If anyone could elaborate on that issue, that would be nice.

Many of the tweaked drivers are for graphical improvement, (eye candy) not FPS improvement. I use the Omega drivers for my ATI card. I can only guess that that same thing applies to the nvidia series of cards and the drivers.

where can i find these 82.xx drivers, (the most recent on the nvidia site are the 81.98) and wil they increase FPS?

i could care less about eye candy, i just want a smoother FPS.
