Switch to another gun then switch back to the DAO. When you switch back the reload animation will still be in progress but you can still fire away. This applies to all guns.

At the moment we just hit 'reload'.

What i was thinking is that there should be a sequence of commands (possibly, but not necessarilty, buttons) to reload the guns and that the sequence should be different for every gun. Then it actually requires a little skill to reload the gun and you have to actually learn how to do it. It would also add alot of tension in fire fights. Also the speed and timing you use to do the sequence has an effect on how fast you reload...so doing it too slow will abviously take longer to reload, whereas too fast increases the risk of jamming it (and of you making a mistake). Then some guns can be made more prone to jamming while reloading.

For example for a sniper rifle you have to raise the bolt, pull it back sway the cartridge, push the bolt back and press it down. The command sequence for that could look like ABCBA (whatever A or B corresponds to).

For a shot gun. ABBBBBBBBC where A is the 'begin reloading' command, B is insert cartridge (however many times you want) and C is ****[edit..lol..that thing you do to a shotgun that sounds like a swearword].

Im not sure what A B or C actually should be. They could be buttons or even mouse gestures. Or maybe something similar to the com-rose.

      What do you think?

I think you should start doing this. No coding required; just press the extra buttons on your own, and you'll undoubtedly start a trend. Make sure you don't shoot at me until you've completed each step of the sequence. What server do you play on?

        lol..

anwyays, its a nice idea however it would be very complex that it would just make it absolutly boring. it wouldn't be fun. some things are better left where they are...

Do you people realise not everybody is playing this game every day ?? that BF2 is an arcade shooter ??

here is another good idea , when running you need to push two buttons seperatly, one for the left leg and one for the right leg .

All extreme points of view are flawed so you cant use that as an arguement.
how is your idea not extreme, do you understand how fing boring it would be to have to press a f*cking sequence of buttons just to reload my gun

please everyone bf2 is NOT sim, it is fun

That, my friend is dependent on one's point of view. And to point out something, he did say that it neccesarily didn't have to be for Bf2.

Anyhow, I think it's a good idea for other games, but for Battlefield 2 it would for me just become a small hinderance for gameplay. I want fast-paced CQC or some long-distance sniper action, without adding a somewhat unneccecary complexity to it. :)

I thought it was a good idea man but I'm not sure how well it would apply to bf2. It's good that your thinking outside of the box, don't let everyone else discourage you.

But ingame, theyre boiled down to pointing and clicking...and thats it.

Thats why firing a gun in BF2 doesnt map onto reality. Everything is boiled down to macros and a mouse movement interface. That is what gives rise to the arguements about game vs reality. I mean, how can you actually compare the two?

That also means that the characteristics of the guns comes more from the mouse interface than from reality. For example, you talk about the accuracy of a gun. How does this map into a game when you are using a mouse? Plus, as Chavr said, there are other factors two (like limits of vision).

So i suggested breaking the reload macro open and turing it into an actual gameplay action rather than a UI action.

                    Just an idea.

[edit] good point about the number of rounds being need in reality. Another good example of how different factors relate.

Maybe you need a fresh perspective. Let's look at all the other unrealistic components of the game and see if you think a manual reload is a good idea.

1st off, no blood, gore, missing limbs, scattered internal organs, burns or abrasions. This is a gore free wargame. In war there is lots of the above mentioned stuff.

2ndly. Everyone wears a parachute that can deploy in under 10 feet

                    3rdly. Medic bags that heal

4thly, Defibs that bring the dead back to life

5thly, 2x4' ammo bags that rearm a tank

6thly Grenades that detonate 1 foot from the barrel (I know about the patch flamers)

7thly Oh hell, there is too much stuff to name. This is not supposed to be a hyper realistic war game, if it was I doubt many people would be able to stomach it.

Look mr. harder reload, BF2 is a fine game, if you want a game that focuses on weapons reloading, make your own game, you can call it S.P.O.R.T.S. (Let's see who gets that one)

Perhaps in another game, it does sound nice -- But not in a game like BF2, I like it the way it is.

They should've made the jets in BF2 like those in MS Flight Simulator.

                            idea made of suck

                            heh

I would not play if it took that much. Make a mod - have fun with it - but it has no place in the BF series IMHO.
