Start up question

i recently had to change computers so i had to reinstall bf2. the install went fine. however when i tried to play the screen would go dark like it was working for about 4 seconds. then it would return to the desktop and have no wait meter, so nothing was happening.
If anyone know anything at all about this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

This is happening to many many players around the country... EA wont cough up an answer... I bought Special Forces to see if that would fix the problem...Nope...Check your Patch.err... I got some stuff that might be the reason...
