    Infrared Strobes

As a sniper, what I do best is spotting out enemy targets which is what snipers are supposed to do next to taking out infantry. But I feel that the spotting system doesn’t work that well which only shows the enemy for a few seconds and a few seconds is not enough for air personal such as the jets circling overhead. Jets have the heads up display of vehicles such as tanks but theres no way to find infantry or ground personal equipped with technicals and considering the fact that jets fly very fast and about 100 feet above the ground (in the game at least)…it’s very hard for jets to find enemy infantry especially when theres a lot of activity. So I’m watching the movie Black Hawk Down and I come across the night fight where Sgt. Emerson uses an infrared strobe to identify the enemy position and I thought this would be a cool and effective concept for showing pilots where the enemy is in bf2. If you don’t know what an infrared strobe is it’s a grenade size device that emits infrared signals, pilots wearing special goggles can pick up the signal emitted by the strobe. Since the sniper has had only one unlock and that’s the M95, this would be a pretty handy unlock for showing hidden enemy positions, I just thought I would throw the idea out there for modders looking for ideas. Obviously the biggest problem with this concept is that many immature people online will use the strobes to mark out “enemy” targets which are really friendlies. If not infrared strobes then at least green smoke or something.

I've just posted this on http://www.bf2lonewolf.com/

Many people have complained about the effectiveness of aircraft. One way to combat this would be to not highlight the enemy vehicles (the green square or circle) when bombing.

Many snipers also complain about having no method to attack vehicles.

Why not get rid of the vehicle highlighting and give snipers a laser designator to target armour and guide the ordnance in? (Targets would show up on the hud)

Snipers already do some of the task by spotting, but I think it would be cool to be able to “tag” a target and then see a paveway slam in to it.

Yeah i sort of agree with you sharpshot but i think the enemies position are shown for a while anyways. I like the idea of the coloured flare/infrared strobe you were on about to alert pilots though.

Sweet thanks man, yeah i also thought that maybe there could be maybe an unlock where you can attach a laser designator to the M95 or M21...but that would kinda be too easy, having to throw a device to the enemy is more challenging and balanced since balancing gameplay is an important issue in bf2.

This would be cool and would be a step forward/backward to the bf42 days when snipers would coordinate with artillery. It's this type of team play that is most enriching.

It would be a good idea apart from the nubs that are on your own team and walk up to the stobe and say ohhhh look the blinking light.... just as a stick of bombs falls from the sky and teamkills them.

or snipers who mark their own team... Who will get the teamkills...

i agree what i did with my squad i was squad leader and two of our members were in jets and helis so i would mark defend this position so that the smoke would come it wasnt all that effective but it was alot of fun. an infared for an unlock say the new sniper would come with it like the f2000 with the flash bangs would be great

not trying to sound like a smart ass or a know-it-all when i say this but here goes: first of all the laser designator that you are talking about using with snipers; while i do think that this would be a really good idea, i can already so some problems. first of all the ordinance used with the designator is laser guided, not manually dropped like the bombs are currently. unless they came up with a clever way to work with this, that would take the skill out of bombing. Also, the laser designator is an infared laser, that being said, neither enemies, nor allies would be able to see the laser. snipers would need to ensure that they arent pointing it at teammates and what not...

Black Hawk Down most definetly influenced this.

I know you're simply trying to increase your post count (just having a look in the Tips and Tricks section speaks for itself) but now you're just stretching..

We're just talking about making a system where the pilots of jets will have the target box that they have for showing tanks, but instead have it show either the strobe or where the laser designator is hitting...theres no way that DICE could make a laser guided system for the bombs and if they did it would take the skill out. But the strobe or designator could show up as a target box on the pilot's HUD and the pilot will have to drop the bomb manully the same way the pilot would do for a tank.

Why would you make the bombs laser guided? Than jets can fly as high as they can drop bombs and resupply drop bombs and so on. I like the idea but at least let it take some skill to bomb and let the them have some fun. This is coming from a helo/plane whore.
