    Bought FEAR

I went and bought FEAR today, and it was only 30$ yay! Anyways it seems like a fun game so far, but I still cant run the game at maximum settings without getting FPS drops sometimes, to about 15FPS at times. Anyone else have a rig similar to mine and still cant play at MAX? Or know any tricks I can do to get better framrates with SLi?

all you have to do it turn the '' soft shadowing '' off. Because that's a killer on any PC.

I run the game maxed w/ that off and the reso at 800x600 w/ 2x anti aliasing.

The story is amazing, once you get far into it you can't stop!

that shadowing is a good tip...

TIP: get into the habit of shooting the nades when you throw them or when they r thrown at you...

This game's engine is not well optimized therefore its a fps killer, I finished the game about a month ago i was not impressed, at all! The game engine reminds me of Dues ex... 1 and 2 terrible game physics! Although fear is not as bad as Dues Ex. The best game engine out there is the crytech game engine and far cry......

This game has some quirks about it with the settings. Basically you have to either choose AA or resolution, not both. Yes in most games it is the case when you do high resolution and then high AA your frames go down but, FEAR is especially bad.

I get FEAR to fun everything maxed, no soft shadows (real frame murder) at 1024x768, 2xAA, 4xAF etc for the test and get 100% over 40fps and it plays very smooth.

Like doninant1 said, this game engine isn't optimized very well but, the game is great!

                  Re: Bought FEAR

Well I havent beaten it because I play other games, and I have school to attend. But, I hate forgetting to save or quicksave. I keep dying at the same spot and always get reverted to right before it, and its ****ing me off, Im gonna put a sticky note on my moniter lol. I noticed that playing the multi palyer, and getting good at the online play helps alot for single player. I also noticed that a 1500$ computer cant play it at MAX without a slight FPS drop here and there.

Just wondering but if you wanted to run F.E.A.R. and BF2 etc on top settings everything maxxed out, AA too, what graphics card would be the best for it, the 7800gtx?

BigFinger, you don't know so don't answer with ignorant remarks.

I was hoping to get a answer from someone with a top of the line PC.

Giving the specs of the system will not necesarily answer the question either.

FEAR, like BF2 and many other games seem to have the same issues:

It will run differently on two different computers with the exact same specs... or in many cases run better on a machine that is lower specs than a top of the line. (Seems to be the curse of the day).

Look at a few of the FEAR forums and you will see many threads where an individual with dual 7800s and a fast machine runs like hell where as mine (Specs below) ran very smoothly and individuals with similar set ups (except a 6800gt or a 7800) ran with all set to high.

Seems to be simply luck of the draw.
So Biggfinger's answer was not that far off from the mark.
