I don't think BF 3 will be out for a while. End of 2007, early 2008. BF 2 is truly a sequel to BF1942 and overall I like the game game. Yes, it does have it's problems and hopefully they will be fixed. After the 1.2 patch, my biggest concern should be fixing any "bugs" which would include the red tag bug and such.
I don't mind buying extra content (I got SF though it's very laggy) and may buy a booster pack (though 3 maps is kind of stupid). But this what I don't understand... BF 2 is a very popular FPS game and I presume EA made a lot of money of it (good for them. That being the case, why not a few more maps in 1.2.
People need to learn from Epic. Not only do they continually patch their games, they will add extra content. Sure, their motivation is to help tweak their engine which they sell to companies. but if this is what it takes to support a game, everyone should make their own engine.
