Possible to take control of Choppers on Singleplayer?

I just bought a Joystick and need to practice flying Choppers in Singleplayer mode. The problem is that the AI soldiers take the choppers and I have to wait for a long time before it's shot down. Is it possible to take control of the chopper at any time so that I can practice flying? Thanks in advance!

You could always Create Local, then fly around on any map you like.

No i dont think its possible you just have to get there first on initial spawn just like multiplayer. Although you wont get TK'd if you do get there first lol. If you get the gunners seat just press F1 and you get to fly :)

Yes, in singleplayer, you can "push out" AI players by getting in, and switch seats with them on the fly by pressing the seat position key (F1-F...) you desire.

Thanks guys. The Create Local worked.

However, how the hell do I fly this thing? When I want to roll to the left, I roll to the right?

You didn't need to go through all that trouble.

I think just walking up and hitting E to enter will automatically "push out" the bot that was already driving/flying the vehicle, like WSR said. You can exchange seats and such with them on the fly.

About the rolling, check if your keys are reversed/inversed.

Thanks DIsso - Although I have been playing PC games for probably 15+ years, I have never owned a Joystick, so I am pretty new at this. So, how the heck do I invert the keys? I select the Invert Mouse box in the Controls>Helicopter menu, but that didn't (and wouldn't seem like it should) change anything.

When I push forward, I want to pitch down. Check. When I pull back, I want to pitch the now up. Check. When I twist the joystick, I want to turn left or right. Check.

When I push right or left, I want to roll right or left. Not checked! Instead, I roll the opposite way I intuitively expect to. Is this just the way it works flying, or is there something else I'm missing?

Flying a chopper in bf2 with a joystick is nothing but a horrible hassle, in my opinion, because the stick gives me not nearly enough control.
Secondly, you can forget about fine tuning your joystick in-game right off the bat, any settings you will have to set as per the OS driver.

That happened to me. This what I did. I went into the control settings for the Helo in Bf2. Clicked on the controls that wernt working correctly and hit Esc to clear the space. Then I reset the controls and after that they worked. Hope that helps

play Dragon Valley, its easy to get in the chopper first on single player.

If a bot is flying goto the nearest AA and tk him. Then make sure you can get to the heli spawn. Like they said if you don't get in the pilots seat just hit F1. This is the same for any vehicle.

You could try playing Zatar Wetlands for chopper practice. I just grab a buggy and head to the middle base. I take a few bots with me to cap the flag quicker. Then I jump into the chopper and off I go. It takes bots a while to figure out how to get to that flag.

I use this to help with my "ok" chopper skills. I like to practice with the TV missile this way too.
