    no mic (to speak of)

howdy folks.... just thought i'd pick ur brains about this prob... it really pi$$e$ me off in a squad when i cant talk... i've checked the threads, and fiddled with this for ages, but now time to escalate the problem.....

my mic doesnt work in BF2 - works everywhere else - as tested.... sound runs through on-board Realtek drivers/hardware... running through logitech Z680 and digital out (optical)..... mic goes into rear (of course), but, again, it works fine when not running BF... i've checed the settings, but its like BF doesnt detect a mic even because the mic test meter doesnt even register, and you cant select the "x" on top of the sliders (i can remember what its function is).... has anyone had this problem, or can suggest a solution?

    thanks in advance.....

A friend of mine is having the same exact problem. His mic volume is up full when he alt tabs but it does not enable in the game. Its really starting to **** us off. Anyone know how to fix?

my mic started working once i upgraded my mobo's driver to the latest. I have realtek onboard sound.

also go into windows volume control > properties > and select 'recording' and make sure the level is enabled and set high enough.

thanks for your replies guys, but like i said, mic works everywhere EXCEPT BF... very odd, voice comes through headset loud and clear at all times, but as soon as BF is started, can only hear, no speak...

Just for completeness, have you tried rerunning the VOIP setup program? (BF2VoiceSetup.exe - located in your game's installation directory.)

Read the instructions carefully: adjust horizontal volume slider so that you are not clipping and adjust the vertical capture slider one tick above where the capture icon turns green.

Since you say your mic works fine in every other application, that's my only suggestion, i.e., that you have the capture level too high (likely) or that the volume level is too low (less likely).

hey thanks for that Tyler.... didnt know that prog existed i checked it, and it seems BF doesnt detect a mic AT ALL!!! very strange - i can use Sound Forge, or even the audio driver test, to pick the mic up, but BF.... no way Jose! *sigh* - destined to be a squad mute! :)

hey guys, problem solved..... after screwing with EVERYTHING, i thought i'd increase the sound quality in the bf cp - it was on medium, so i made it high - and bugger me - the mic test WORKED!!!! however, i had to press the mic tester several times, so once it started working i left it alone.... thanks for your help/replies.
