Getting major FPS lag.

Every 20 seconds or so, the game will shutter and fps will drop to about very low then go up. It is very annoying because it always happens when I'm shootin somebody or trying to move left or right.

System Specs:
Windows XP
AMD 64 2800+
1.00 gig of ram
6600 nvidia gt
120 gig hd

This never happened before, but now the problem is occuring in all my games,
If there is no solution then, ->format PC

do u hear a lot of noise from ur harddrive when this happens? if so, try defraggin it..cuz a fragged hd can make lots of stutters and make sure ur clean of spy/adware

wht is ur power supply unit?
ex: 350 watts?
cause ur video card may need more. tht is wht is happening for me right now

I've got the same card as you and I used to experience that sort of lag, but I got another stick of ram to take me up to 2GB and problem went away, best £50 I've spent!

The upgrade from 1.5gigs of ram to 2gigs for me was almost nothing in bf2. I get basically the same FPS, and since I cant Alt+Tab in Sli mode because its retarted, running other programs is pointless. Not a complete waste of money, but not really worth it. Its money that could have gone towards a sound card.

It's bf2. The game has to be the worst game ever technically. I mean I get 50-60 fps with my 6600gt at med/low in bf2, but in half-life 2 (an older game with better graphics) I get around 130 fps with med/high settings.
EA needs to get their finger out their ass and fix these problems.

I get that, cant alt+tab out when im in SLI mode, really annoying. You see the windows mouse but the BF2 screen sits over the top so you cant see windows.

Maybe stating the obvious, but do you have any programs running in the background that automatically check for updates. Most obvious suspect being anti-virus software, or maybe you have a email program that checks every few minutes.

Can you confirm if there is harddisk activity when this happens?

the reason why bf2 is so laggy, even for killer systems, is because it uses wicked huge maps meant for 64 players, so u need a lot more ram to store all the textures in a map, while half life 2 may have better graphics but the maps are a lot smaller (ever wonder why it loads a new map every 10 minutes?)

nope nothing is running, this never happened before even on a 64 player map.
im going to reformat.
