SoundBlaster X-FI

Really weird. Up until today I was using my onboard sound with no problems at all. Installed a SoundBlaster X-FI ExtremeMusic and now I'm getting horrible lag with the audio settings still on medium. I've tried switching it around, but it's still laggy. What am I doing wrong? It should improve not get worse.

maybe the X-FI function (is this like EAX?) or the actual sound card requires more resources from your PC, I don't know really..

But I can imagine it is like when you upgrade from an older graphics card to a new one, you need more juice to get it to run properly.

DNC Q, that card is a mess! check the official Creative forum, there is a 500 replies long thread about the performance problems with x-fi and no solution!

The best choice, get a non creative product

I've got the same sound card as you. I had a few problems with BF2 crashing when I first installed it. I went to Creative's website and updated the driver for it. No problems at all now. I also have BF2 audio set to Creative X-Fi and Ultra High. No problems whatsoever. Maybe reinstall BF2.???

Strangly my only game that has a problem with it is......................... BF2

COD2, Halo, CS:s all play lovely with it! But there is meant to be an update either from creative or EA!

when I use the 24 bit crystalizer, I lag..but with the crystalizer not checked, I am good

i had similar problems. I had to uninstall onboard drivers for Mobo's audio. Then i reinstalled creative cd and updated. No problems at all.

I've uninstalled the onboard drivers, updated the Creative drivers from their website and it's still doing it. It's a different kind of lag as well. As long as I'm looking straight ahead while I'm moving it's fine. Soon as i start looking left and right I'm screwed. Getting out of a vehicle gets me killed everytime because by the time the lag stops, I'm not moving the way I thought I was.

Right now my audio settings have EAX off, hardware based at medium settings and it's still laggy. I've set up the mode for gaming with headset. This is getting frustrating.

its a problem with the xfi card. ive been banging my head on the wall too the last few days with mine. apperently if you dont have the high end xfi card, the one with the onboard 64 mb of ram YOU CAN NOT USE XFI SETTINGS. yes i know its retarded, talk about some twisted sales procedures to not tell anyone but yes, bf2 will have serious problems in high or ultra and selecting xfi. some people are even having these problems on the new high end versions that do have the onboard ram also so who knows whats up. i would almost bet you anything it has to do with certain mobo's and the new xfi card, they just arent getting along.

mine got a little better by turning the xfi option off and using software settings and then medium. its still not where it should be, major frame rate loss, i mean when 2 7800's in sli will drop to 20 fps on a 64 man karky theres a problem. theres a 64 page thread on this over at the creative forums you should check out and it seems there is no fix in the future, i realy wish i would of read it before i jumjped into mine. seems the best fix is to sell off or return the xfi and just buy a turtle beach sound card.

Delete your ..\My Documents\Battlefield 2 directory to wipe all previous settings and cache after updating to the newest X-Fi drivers.

I had issues at first and doing this (or a completely BF2 reinstall) worked wonders for me.

I couldn't ask for a nicer sound card.

Well with that said, I'm thinking it has to be a motherboard/sound card compatability issue. I've got the X-Fi xtrememusic set on ultra high with eax and am having no problems once I updated the driver from creative's website. I'm running a Compaq I've upgraded a lot. The motherboard that's in it tho is an Asus K8S-LA. I don't know if that helps anybody or not but... Oh yeah also, don't get a Turtle Beach card, I had one right before the x-fi, a Montego 7.1, and it made BF2 run like crap.

I have the low end X-fi and have no problems running it on high with X-fi settings.
