SF wont start renamed bf2.exe STUMPED I AM

Allright, I am stumped here. I renamed my bf2.exe to bf21.exe. Now Special Forces will not start from desktop shortcut. It will work when I type a SF addy into bf2 join. When I click the shortcut this is the error I get:

"The item bf2.exe that this shortcut refers to has been changed or removed".

I don't know how to change the target to the new file change.

three things
1. why would you rename your bf2.exe?
2. PunkBuster will complain about a invalid exe in your BF2 direcory and kick you from the server when you rename your bf2.exe
3. right click the shortcut, click properties and change the target

first, drevor, it has been known that changing the bf2.exe name will let ur computer not recongize it as battlefield 2 and ur nvidia drivers or soething has profiles saved for the game so when u do load Battlefield 2, then it will use the profile that was saved and sometimes that profile isnt "optmizied" and can make the game run slower and plus, punkbuster doesnt care..many ppl have tried this including me and no pb kickign stuff

popeye, im not sure wat u mean by "SF addy into bf2 join" but from wat i read, i can only ask that you make srue that you changed teh shortcut target box to change from "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe to
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF21.exe or vice versa..basically make sure that the shortcut refers to wats in ur direcotry

good catch drevor...never knew that it could pose a problem .. since it was posted and recommended in many guides, i thoguht that it wouldnt mess with pb..meh

All you realy need to do is look at C:\Windows\System32\nvapps.xml this is the file that NVidia drivers uses to load SAVED Game profiles & has the HIDDEN profiles for many games. This file can be edited use'n notepad.

i had my bf2.exe renamed for a while & never had any pb issues, as for SF, isnt it in the properties for the shortcut (right click it) i know there will be a bunch of command line stuff, but bf2.exe should be there somewhere (mine worked)

it is moe trouble than its worth though, and as for those "optimizations," thats what hes trying to turn off by renaming... they dont really do anything & can actually hurt performance on some machines (or so they say, i havent noticed a diff either way)

if ntohing works...then try downloading nHancer and then search for Battlefield 2 and u can edit the profile there so changing the name wont be needed
