    BF2 Vs Operation Flashpoint.

    I need some convincing;

I could re-install Operation Flashpoint, or, buy a copy of BF2....but i'm concerned that BF2 wont have such a wide variety of editing tools...

But my major concern, is that BF2 will not have huge "Islands" to edit and work my magic with, but just small area's to make missions and whatnot (small village/city..etc).

Basically - all i'm looking for is an updated version of Op flashpoint, keeping the freedom which it offered me (get in any vehicle....edit anything...etc)

Anyone who's played Operation flashpoint i'm sure will be able to understand me, and if your one of them - please help me!.

    Thanks everyone.

They are really different animals at heart... BF2 is designed to be played on line with 100% human players. No missions or objective (outside the flags). The map builder is interested only n producing interesting environments to fight in and the MOD is either tweaking the game for fun and/or realisim or altering the content to make a different theme (WW2, cop & robbers, etc)...

Op Flashpoint did support straight forward capture the flag style gameplay on line but that was the simplist form. Co-op with interesting mission and complications was the best, plus you could actually make interesting SP missions pretty easily...

I've played O.F, I liked the freedom to walk around or drive/fly everywhere. Or the realistic missions.

Battlefield is the same but more a arcade-style game without missions....you've got large maps and a lot of players (max 64 ) in one big battlefield. And it is very easy to learn. It rox!

I played Flashpoint for quite a while and I know where you're comming from but I don't edit at all in BF2 (I did a bit in FP)

The gameplay in BF2 is much quicker than Flashpoint, there are more spawn pionts and you can spawn on your squad leader also so getting back into action doesn't take as long as it did in FP (this is both good and bad). You can get into any vehicle you want just like FP.

The graphics and physics of BF2 totaly own FP. Flashpoint seams completly outdated (and it is) compared to BF2. Overall the game play is very similar to FP but you have to get on a good server for teamwork to happen. I used to play Fraghaus all the time in FP, great peeps, great maps, great fun.

There is no in-game editor for BF2 but there are editors availiable to make maps and mods but not quite like FP. All the maps are multiplayer only and you can't load them in single player and I don't think you can script events like in FP.

Why not wait a little while for Armed Assault to come out. It should be soon.

I only played the demo of Flashpoint, but from that I can clearly see that it was really different. You had more freedom in what and how you did your job beause of the huge environment... i remember playing an awesome fan-made sp misson, where you were a KGB sniper who had to hunt down a US officer somewhere, in one of the two towns behind enemy lines. It was probably one of my greatest computer game experiences ever... Nothing could be compared to the feeling of hiking through the mountains with your rifle on your back, always on the look for enemy patrols, then taking up positions near the towns, observing the troops and searching for the officer, finding and killing him, then fleeing back to the Russian controlled zone without being followed. It took me 2 hours, and I only fired three shots altogether(two at a two-manned patrol that came too close in the mountains and one at the officer), but I loved every second of it.

              Re: BF2 Vs Operation Flashpoint.

If you ever played a CTI (capture the island) map in OFP and liked it you should get on with the gameplay of BF2, just on a drastically smaller scale with a lot less need for being tacticley minded.
BF2 doesnt offer the same customization as OFP or potential for the home modder/scripter and if its just that you want to do then OFP all the way. Map wise BF2 is more like CS in that it isnt missions set around the same large island but various small maps.
Of course if you want to play a game online it has to be BF2 as OFP never really worked that well on line- four hours into a CTI round and the crash bug started whiping the players from the server and you ended up with 4 people at the end.

I like BF2 because of Join-in-Progress and vehicle physics.. everything else is way better in OFP...anyway, Im waiting for Armed Assault...also, OFP CTI multiplayer simply pwns all!

FOR REPLAYABILITY , OFP OWNS ALL ...PERIOD.

Why else is it still being supported by mods after 5 years

Before anybody says anything, let me tell you that OPF2 will NOT be the next BF2, because BF1942 was the next operation flashpoint When armed assault is out, i will play it and i will also play BF2. It depends on how they will make it btw, the game looks perfect and the graphics look a lot better/realistic than BF2 counterparts.

Also, FYI, Armed Assault is NOT OPF2, its considered as 1.5.

They are saying the map size will be equal to real 100 square kilometer area. The largest BF2 map is 4 square Kilometers (gulf of oman i think).

You will also be able to play with 128, 256, and 512 (if successful in betatest)
                        players.

that will be the "real" FPS-war simulation-realistic-fun game, all together. Some from CSS, some from BF2, some from America's Army, some from operation flashpoint.

i say ofp, bf2's tool arnt nearly as easy, only thing bf2 wins in is how it looks, but nothing else.
