Im so sick wow............... what the F*CK!!! I usually play city maps right. But my friend gave me a Ip so i joined it was that wetlands map. I get out the old trusty 50 cal and I'm crawling around poping people trying to be like a real sniper in the grass. THEN I NOTICE HOW CAN I SEE THESE PEOPLE SO EASY?????!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE IN THE GRASS TOO AND FROM FAR AWAY IT LOOKS AS IF THEY ARE SITING THERE IN THE OPEN LIKE IDIOTS!!!!!! WOWOWOWOWOW?!!?!? WHATS THE POINT OF THE GRASS IN THIS GAME IF YOU CAN ONLY SEE IT LIKE 20 FEET IN FRONT OF YOU? ANY OF YOU NOTICE THIS? THIS ALMOST MADE ME QUIT BF2! How could they do that? its crazy that you only see the grass like 20 feet around you.

Yeah I think it has something to do with draw distance....But still they should be hidden no matter what...They def slacked in that dept. -

Re: I just died inside!
People stick out like sore thumbs in this game. As a sniper you can be prone in grass and have your view blocked by the grass but another sniper can easily spot you like a wine stain on a white carpet. Why they even bothered putting ghillie suits on the snipers is beyond me.Comment

Re: I just died inside!
They put the ghille suits on the snipers because deep down inside it's every man's dream to run around wearing nothing but a shirt made out of leaves.
But yes, the draw distance for the shrubbery in this game leaves a lot to be desired. I love it when I'm running along the train tracks at Karkand and I see bushes magically growing out of the ground 10 feet in front of me.

if the dev put grasses all over the map, i don't think the current gfx cards can take itComment

Re: I just died inside!
Uh no. The reason the grass 'grows' 10 foot in front of you is so that your computer can actually render the screen better than 1fps. If you could see grass for 200metres in front of you, imagine how much processing power that those realistic grass waves would need.
And the ghillie suits are great on a mountain side like fusche pass, just not in grass.Comment

Re: I just died inside!
This was an issue in BF:Vietnam too. In my opinion a bigger problem too, because after all, you were supposed to be fighting in dense jungle which gave you the advantage of cover.
I remember players taking cover from Hueys in bushes and long grass would be clearly viewable by the Huey pilot. Many times I was killed like that, nothing you could do.
Best bet is to snipe next to the oil platform things, not a the top of course, but the bottom, or first level. This is probably the best cover and concealment you can get (on Zatar).Comment

Re: I just died inside!
At least it is BETTER in BF2 than in BFV...in BFV it was absolutely apalling.
It's a shame that when you crank all of your video settings up, it puts you at a disadvantage over some super-competitive player with a high end machine that turns all of his options down and, as a result, can make YOU more visible to him.

In my opinion the grass was put in the game to trick new snipers and hinder experienced snipers. My opinion might be a little biased.Originally posted by CargoSlugIm so sick wow............... what the F*CK!!! I usually play city maps right. Re: I just died inside!
Go play Far Cry and you will see tons of underbrush and palm trees, in full draw distance. It's just how the devs wrote the engine. BF2's engine is not all that good in this department, but that doesn't mean other engines can't do it right now either.Originally posted by filamentsnowif the dev put grasses all over the map, i don't think the current gfx cards can take it
It makes you realize how graphically "behind" the "new" bf2 engine is compared to a game that came out 2 years ago.Comment
