Problems with mic volume

Ok, this issue has been annoying me for awhile now...

Whenever I'm playing online and using my mic, people keep complaining that it's hard for them to hear me. I've been through several mics by now and I've always had the same problem, so I know it's not the mic I'm using. I've turned up the mic volume to Max in the Windows control panel as well as pumping the transmit volume up to 100% in my in-game options menu. This is really starting to annoy me. Does anybody have any suggestions?

when u were installing the game, at teh end htey had this lil mic test thing, could u hear urself when u were testing? also, try turning on mic boost which can prob be found in the options

I have to put the foam mic cover right on my lips to be heard well. Also their in game sound is prolly up to high.

Alt-tab out of BF2 while you're playing a map and check your windows mixer.

Ensure that mic record volume is 100% and that mic boost is enabed.

Then alt-tab back into BF2 and see the difference.

BF2 has a nasty habit of playing with those settings once it is loaded.

Start->Control Panel->Sound and Audio Devices
Click on the 'Voice' tab

There are 2 'Volume' buttons. Click the one under 'Voice Recording' and ensure that 'Microphone' is selected as the input, then click on the 'Advanced' button and ensure that the +20db mic boost is enabled.

Remember...do all of this AFTER you have loaded BF2 and are in a map and playing.

If your using onboard sound AC97 try updating your driver, I was having problems until I updated my Driver. Mite work for you.

Problems with mic setup ...

I have the same problem. I had it working but then it started giving feedback because my voice was coming over my 7.1 system. I could hardly hear the action, let alone my own voice.

Which led me to think. Hmmm ... I have a Creatvie sound card and onboard AC97 sound. Why not use one for VoIP and the other for game sounds. Doesn't work

But shouldn't it? If I go into the control panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices there are two important tabs ... Audio and Voice. Each let me pick which device to use ... the SB 2 ZS Audio or the NVidia nForce AC97 Audio. In the Audio tab I select All three drop downs for SB. In the Voice tab I select nVidia for voice playback and voice recording.

Now this should work, no? I should hear my voice, as well as others, through the microphone's headset speakers (99% of all microphones used in game are microphone/headphone combos). And I should hear gameplay over my 7.1 system, no? And there should be no cross over, no? NOPE!! Correct me if I'm wrong, but BF2 doesn't recognize the settings on the Sounds and Audio Devices "Voice" tab.

It would be really, really cool if I could setup my game like above ... putting my headphones one when I want to hear gamespeak and being able to turn up or down the voice volume on my headset INDEPENDENTLY of the Sound Blaster game volume. I can hardly hear what people are saying over VoIP over my 7.1 system, but if people's voices were coming in only over my headphones, it would be crystal clear.
