    BF2 Intel Release from EA.

EAUK_Sentience had this to post of at EA's UK website.

    Community Bulletin January 18, 2006

    Hello everyone.

By now, you have all seen the list of fixes in the next update (1.2). We are still trying to nail down a few final items and put the final touches in place.

Here is a list of additional items to look for in version 1.2:
    • UAVs are now visible in the world so if you are being scanned, you can know about it and take action against it.
    • Rank progression is no longer limited to the enlisted ranks. All officer ranks are now available.
    • Bug that allowed players in vehicles to contest a flag from outside the flag radius is now fixed.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to clarify some confusion stemming from our updates.

The first item is on the topic of grenades. Player will still be able to toss grenades while jumping. Although the ability to fire while jumping has been removed, players will still be able to initiate a grenade toss prior to jumping and follow through with the toss, thereby gaining themselves some extra distance. We understand that there will be some adjustment in tactics required when the patch comes out but we are confident that the community will quickly come to grips with the new tactics.

The second item is on the topic of the booster packs. We have not created the maps as a separate expansion pack requiring a separate server. The booster packs will increase the content of the base game and thereby may be run on a server in regular rotation with the original maps.

Hope that clears up some of questions you've all been asking.

Or when people find them, people will just complain about those tactics until action is taken against them as well. :p

I'm suddenly worried about how they're going to handle the booster packs on ranked servers. Are they going to have an obvious way to tell which server is running them and which isn't, or are the people who aren't buying them just screwed and going to get booted every other map because of "map not found"?

When you said Intel I thought you meant the CPUs :p

This, if it's actually implemented as should be, means 2nd Lieutenant is no longer the highest rank, but you may progress further than that. I've heard you can progress up to General, and icons for up to a 5 Star General were included with the intial release but haven't been used (until now?).

I know that isn't going to happen, because EA/DICE still doesn't seem to have the word optimize in their vocabulary. (There are some articles floating around about lack of optimization in the BF2 code, which is where I draw that statement from)

if the booster packs are only additions to the original game then how can they charge for them?

I mean what if u dont have the packs? What happens when ur on a server and it changes to one of the new maps?

And it wont stop people from downloading them off P2P networks either... If its just single maps with no new master keys, then yeh... people will just be sending the maps to each other.

1 word: mods. It's your only salvation from such atrocities as that. :p

I too wonder what they're going to do about that. Going to get a lot of people with "map not found" unless they beef the server browser up to show if booster pack maps are in rotation are not. (and hey, how about a sort-by-mod filter?)

You get booted from the server.

Lovely. Since not everyone is going to have the maps, I guess the booster packs will split the BF2 community even more. :hmm:

So I can use Euro Force weapons in all maps then?

What's worse is you can finally put the last nail in the coffin for any auto-download map feature in BF2.
