I'll miss using explosives to detonate mines. My buddy and I create tank booby traps where the engineer places 3 mines or whatever along the side of the road, then a claymore on the mines. The next thing to go by gets a very big boom, plus it's sneaky as the tank won't suspect mines if they're not on a road.

engy is still pretty good I love the normal shotgun for US and China and MP-7 kicks but. if the engy was able to sabotage tanks and stuf like in BfV then that would be even better but untill then it will take a back seat to classes like Medic, assulat and Spec-ops.
        pity...

Engineer was probably my favourite class in ye olde BF games.

I liked the rifle of the engineer (not the Garand) since you could snipe with it plus you got the explosion packs to set up "traps" for enemy vehicles in Wake. Since FF was most of the time OFF on servers, you didn't get punished for using mines like you do in BF2 since your teammates WILL bulldoze them, no matter where they are placed.

In Vietnam, the NVA engineer had one of the best handguns in the game, the MAT-49 SMG plus the ability to move the "tunnel" spawnpoint.

I think they should give the old WW2 rifle to the engineers in BF2 too. With the shotgun you always have to get to close range with the enemy, and there's no reason why the engineer should be out "in the front" with the real assault units. Engineer should block access from enemy vehicles by mining roads and not frisbeeing them with suicide runs. Engineer is good for tank whoring in Karkand, yes, but it would be funkier to play as an engineer if you had somekind of longrange rifle with you. That would make the engineer class more interesting and tanks could actually ask for repair then since there would be engineers actually playing the game, like in '42.

That works so great on Kubra Dam.
Especially with a supply crate so the sniper can place several claymores, so you can set up several traps at once.
Also works with AT mines around the flagpole ("camouflaged" with medkits/ammopacks) and claymore on the flag pole pedestal --> massive explosion of kill all.

I believe the engineer class should be given more task and abilities. By definition, combat engineers are not battle oriented. They are trained to fix vehicles, structures and build fortifications.

I believe the engineer class should be able to (additionally from what it does now):

                1) Locate and clear minefields
                2) Clear C4 sticks as well as claymores
                3) Build booby traps
                4) Use new class specific vehicles such as movable bridges
                5) Sabotage enemy resources (Artillery and also UAV)
                6) Sabotage enemy airfields
                7) Sabotage vehicles

These tasks would allow engineers to contribute to the team without having to actually engage in combat, since we already established that it is a SUPPORT class. That way engineers would have things to do and be able to get points by helping the team, at the same time providing additional defense to bases. These new task would still go along the lines of paper-scissors-rock attitude of the game since you would need another engineer to clear a booby trap for example.

Personally, I belive that the game should reward greatly team effort and support missions as to promote unity and teamwork.

                What do you think?
Engineers can do 1 & 2 right now. Just use your wrench.
