How much memory do you need...?

Just to let anyone out there know exactly how much difference memory makes in this game. I have a Abit IC7-Max3 P4 3.0, WD 74GB,and an ATI X850XT AGP. I did have 1 GB of ram from Kingston pc-3200 dual channel cas 3. (4x256mb). The game looked great with all the toys up, but lagged alot on entry and loading of the surroundings. Also, was a b***h upon unloading back to desktop. I bought 2 GB OCZ pc-3200 cas 2. (2x1024mb) OMG, the difference it made. It feels like I am playing CS 1.6 on this machine. Half the load time. No in game lag. No unloading to desktop lag. Unbelievable. Best $250 upgrade I have ever bought. I suggest you do the same!!!

Yea im looking at getting another Gig of RAM, i think i might do so when i get my new Vid Card. Then the game should run very nicely! :)

those who set low settings also load faster than those who set the highest most of the time, that is if both are on same amount of memory

In to this topic I could comment that 1,5 GB of RAM (if you use the highest settings and all) isn't enough if you haven't tweaked the hell out of XP and eliminated every fricking background process! :)

(At least for me).

So I'm looking into buying a new RAM stick.

I had only 512mb of ram and add another 512mb of ram and it made a hugh difference in load time and lag time in the begining. One gig is the max for my basic computer and good for now.

yeah but make sure you always stay in the matched pair you dont want to disturb the dual channel

If you open windows task manager, while BF2 is running, you will see that BF2 uses about 1.7 gigs of ram and It doesnt matter how much more you have, It still uses about 1.7 gigs. So I would say 2 gigs is the min. to make the program run properly. Yes it will run with 512 meg but it will use the page file to compensate which will make it run a lot slower. A whole lot slower. . . . . . .Red

512mb is just enough, but I'm going to upgrade to 1 gig soon, aswell as something else than my X300 card.

I stick with the fact that fast ram and fast harddrive is better than more ram....
