Used to play perfect for as long as I wanted. Then (and I dont know exactly) it started to CTD when attempting to load a new map. Not at some percent loaded like many other posts, but right after the map ends, at the part where you see everyones score. Since I could not fix I would just play on servers that played a map for like 10 rounds. Occasionally it would load a new map but almost certainly would get a slowdown and texture corruption and had to quit out anyway. Tried to fix again (by removing and reinstalling vid drivers) and now it CTD as soon as you click on a game to join. Cant play at all.
This is def a video driver problem but I cannot figure out how to fix. I never had a problem updating my video card drivers before. When I install any newer drivers instead of XP booting I get a black screen with a little green cursor sized bar at the top left and thats it. Keyboard is unresponsive, no num light or caps lock light etc... have to hit reset button and get back into safe mode where I can install the only drivers that my computer will boot with, the 79.11.
got a error message only once... "The nv4_disp display driver has stopped working normally"

Its a tired rig but it has played BF2 for hours with no problem before this glitch started.
- starts in 1280*1024 with 79.11 (my usual desktop resolution, as if it remembers)
- monitor reads 640*480 at black screen with any other drivers
- slider goes no lower than 800*600 with or without drivers installed
- tried drivercleaner no difference
- no mods installed
- newer drivers tried 81.98, 81.89, and about 2-3 others
- no other errors on computer except BF2
Besides using driver cleaner I have tried various methods when installing new drivers to make sure the old ones are gone, including removing drivers in add/remove programs, erasing /nvidia dir, searching /system and /system32 folders for any nv*.* files and removing... still stuck
I have read months of posts on totalbf2, searched the web for hours and hours, tried nvidia knowledgebase, and am still stuck. I really (and I mean REALLY) do not want to format and reinstall XP from scratch.
