Am I going to get massacred?

Hello everyone. I am new to these forums, but I am far from new to BF. I played both BF 1942 and Vietnam right when they came out. I downloaded the BF2 demo the day it came out and have been playing it ever since. I am pretty decent at it, usually I rank in the top 4 or 5 players on my team out of 32 or more people. I usually play on the MEC side as assault...but I also play as medic sometimes. I finally decided to buy the actual game. I was looking at other threads on here and I noticed people talking about unlocked weapons, rankings, etc. I am also sure that the people who play the full game are way better than most of the players on the demo...Which leads me to my question..am I going to even have a chance? Since I am starting from scratch, I am going to have no unlocked weapons and be of the lowest rank. If all I am doing is being destroyed by more powerful players the second that I spawn it won't be enjoyable for me at all....do you start with crappy weapons, or is it the same weapons that you have in the demo?

Welcome to the forums! Yes, you will die alot. Then you will get better and kill some and die less, just have fun.

same DEFAULT weapons as in the demo. You get your unlocks like the G36c and M95 later on after you rank up.

Dont worry about getting tottaly owned. It wont be bad but you will need to get used to the maps. Most popular urban maps are: Strike at karkand, sharqi peninsula and mashtur city.

One tip: Dont bunny hop, m203 whore, c4 chuck or dolphin dive.
its not fun and it will be removed in the next patch

The maps are quite varied, as are the weapons. There are a lot of whiney people that complain and cry when they get owned by anyone regardless of rank.
Why did you wait so long to get the game anyway? You been playing the demo for the last 8 months?

OK great, thanks for the help everyone. I play as uzi900 on the demo, maybe some of you have seen me on there. I was playing on techwar last night and I was playing on some other server (forget which) tonight. I played on confusedgaming over the summer most of the time. I will probably be pwned but who cares I will learn, get those weapons and figure stuff out.

Why did you wait so long to get the game anyway? You been playing the demo for the last 8 months?

Just finished college, job hunts, looking at grad schools and no money was a major factor in that. I was waiting for the price to go down a little bit but finally figured it wasn't going to go down all that much and just decided to buy it.

Pick up kits of dead players, you'll get to test drive unlocks before you pick them. Stock weapons have plenty of power to compete, hell, look at all the threads regarding gp30/m203 use...

Yes, it'll be overwhelming..but just stick with it.

For the most part, you'll be beaten by truly more skilled players and that is the BEST way to learn. If you CAN, play on Battlerecorder enabled servers and then watch some of the play backs and watch those players play.

Occasionally, you'll be beaten by an exploiter or some lame-ass using lame tactics...try to ignore them

Don't forget as you've been playing on the demo you've been playing alongside newbies. Besides that the game has changed a little through patching and etc. Just don't expect to get similar results straight away. Good luck though. Give us your player name and we'll keep an eye out on your stats.

If you play as uzi900 in the demo you should be able to play as uzi900 in retail. Just use the same account when you set it up after you buy it.

The unlocks are more there as "another option", they aren't always better - and when they are better they aren't totally owning. Someone with good aim and a default rifle will generally own someone with bad aim and an unlocked weapon.

Anyways you get your first unlock pretty quickly so its not like you'll have to wait 50 hours of gameplay to get one.

actually in the demo you can unlock weapons too. there also a cheat for the demo. when you go in the files go to weapon unlocks. then it will show all 0's for unlocks change them all to ones to see which unlock you like best

Playing with and against players better than yourself always will make you improve your game. Going into a server full of noobs that you can place in the top 3 every time will do nothing to improve your game...however it might help your stats - heh.

New people start every day. You are not going to be the only new person out there. Get to know people on servers - start playing on a server with a regular player base - and you can do nothing but improve if you have half a brain and are willing to learn - instead of being new and declaring everyone hackers - like some idiots out there.

Don't be 'skerd' (as they say in the south) - come on out and have a good time.
