Installing my sticks.

Picked up 2 gig sticks, never installed Mem before but from what I remeber the guy at the store telling me this is how I did it and Im hoping it was right.

I have an Asus Mobo, it has a yellow slot next to a Blue slot next to a yellow slot next to a blue slot.

I set it up like so..

Yellow-DIMM_A1- 1 gig in this slot
Blue-DIMM_A2- 1 gig in this slot
Yellow-DIMM_B1
Blue-DIMM_B2

I have duel channel DDR2 if that explains anything.

Um, I'm thinking they have to be in the same color slots.

for dual u put 1 in blue and the next 1 in the far yellow 1.

Depending on what kind of mobo you have will dictate which slots they need to be in.

what Abit tells you to do might be the opposite of what Asus wants for example. You need to read your motherboard manual to know the correct answer.

Don't have a manual? Well, surely you know the model number then? Goto the manufacturers website and download the manual...skip to the section on installing ram and look at the table for dual channel, single channel installation.

I have an MSI nForce4 mobo...green, purple, green, purple
Dual channel only works on this mobo when using a green and a purple.

Inserting in the same colors is single channel on this mobo.

I just downloaded an Asus manual for a socket 775 Intel...945G just to take a look. It's probably not your exact mobo...but it says to use the same colored slots for dual channel operation.

Once again though, go there yourself and downlaod the correct manual.

After you have installed your sticks...go here:

and download the lastest version 1.31
When you run this little program, it tells you all the stuff about your CPU, memory, and various other little things...including whether or not you're in dual or single channel.
