Ok so i did the whole uninstall\install, check ram,mess with timing\voltage,and edit the reg. Nothign worked

Try this go into User accounts and make a new account with admin rights.Try to patch.BAM worked for me.

have you removed all your battlefield 2 folders from program files yet !?... that did it for me .

ya i did...but for some reason only making a new account worked.

It can be because your previous accout name had characters that the installation didn't like. Your login name in Windows is a folder on the hard drive, and it can cause problems.

An alternative to this could be to try an move the My Documents folder for your account, this is done in the properties of the folder.
