Posted before, help understanding this issue

OK, this has been posted many times, and there are many differnet schools of thought from what I have read. What effects your loading into games on the servers, ie once you have logged in, and you start loading and verifying client. Is it your Ram, Hard drive, what? I did not used to have this slow loading issue, but I had to reload Windows XP. Once I had reloading XP, and BF2, BF2SF I now have really slow loading times, apprx 3 mins or longer. Here are some of the specs I am running

    Gateway E-4100
    Intel 3.0 GHz
    2 gigs Ram
    ATI X700 AGP 256
    Sprint DSL 5.0meg Internet

I have just seen too many different posts, And need some help. Thanks

..and you'll see different opinions being posted here.

For me, I think RAM is the #1 factor. Amount, and then speed.

When u reloaded os did you just overwrite the existing winows install or did you boot from cd at startup & then do a clean install of XP including a disc format? If u did'nt then there's ya problem, the only way to get a fast clean install of XP is to do it properly, overwriting or recovering causes more trouble than it's worth because of missing driver & dll issues.

I would think hard drive first, because I noticed a huge difference between 1 7200 rpm drive and 2 7200 rpm drives running in RAID 0. With an extra gig of memory, I noticed a small reduction in loading time and a lot less freezes for loading in-game.

Oh, and defragging your hard drive helps alot too
