    What I did:

    - low level format of harddisk, disk is 7200 RPM ATA
    - installed windows xp
    - installed the tweaksrus G-Xtreme drivers
    - overclocked the cpu to an 1800 XP (1.53 GHZ)

And guess what, it ****ing runs at 1600*1200 all medium at 40-50 fps. And that is with only 512 MB of mem

    Think I need to laydown.

    Happy though.

    Cheers

Bullsh*t. My system gets fps at 20-30 when in 64 player maps in intense firefights. I do not believe you dude. Dont post crap here. thanks.

            Great work!

Glad to see people able to tweak up what they have and learn to use graphics settings and drivers to make the game playable and enjoyable enough for them.

I had to resort to an AMD Athlon XP 2100+ when my AMD 64 mobo crashed. I used an ABIT NF7-S v2.0 with the nforce2 Ultra 400 chipset and ran my 2x512 Patriot XBL ram on it. CAS 5-2-2 CL2 timings. I overclocked the Athlon to 1.8Ghz with 400FSB and used my GF6800 Ultra. Quite frankly the old AMD didn't cut it. The game was choppy. I ran all medium to keep it within 1 GB memory usage.

I'm really questioning what people interpret as a good gaming experience nowadays. Even in the old days when I played Quake2 I ran it at 100FPS. 20-30FPS is in my view totally unacceptable.

Wasp: Agreed, anything less than 50fps in any game for me is unacceptable.

Hey Wasp, acceptable would be 30fps, but super smooth gameplay starts from 50 fps. At least that is my personal experience. I just made this box for my kid brother. I've been tuning systems for BF 2 since it came out. I've so much people willing the best for there BF2 experience, that I just opened a small store selling high end performance sytems (I will make an English version with tuning guides also, for now it is only in my own language). Just wanted to show you guys that with your old comp, you can run this perfecly fine. Invest in a good gfx card, it's worth more than any other component in your comp. I will put up some pics when I've some time. If you want the best, make sure you tune your box perfectly. But if you want to play the game at acceptable and a quality setting, just buy a 256MB 6600GT or 256MB x800GTO and above. 256MB vid card will do the job.

                  Cheers

what does a low level reformat do? and is it possible to anything like this with my system, without REALLY getting into it?
                    Intel 2.8 Dual core
                    1 gb ram
                    NVidia 256MB 6088(non-GT)

It cleans out your harddrive like it was new when you bought it. With a normal format, only the directory structures are destroyed. The actual data is still on the disk. With a low level format, the program will write all zero's to the disks, aka making it new again. Hope this helps.

                          my spec:

                          AMD64 3200+ OCed to 3400+ with 1mb cache
                          ATI 9800 Pro, No OC
                          1G generic ram
                          7200RPM ATA

with this setup, I manage to pull a stable 80 fps on 1024x768, 2xAF, no AA, with geometry and texture on high, dynamic lightning and shadow off, and everything else medium

tip for ATI users: turn off lightning and shadow (dyanmic, they eat up your system)
