I'm not so sure about that. I received my air defense ribbon playing SF last week and it appeared on my BF2 awards page. Also last week I received my SF veteran anti-tank badge and about 5 seconds later got my BF2 veteran anti-tank badge - both while playing the same SF map and they are both now listed on their appropriate awards pages.
I'm pretty sure they're listed in both SF and Vanilla, but those awards still are earned seperately. 5(?) kills for with the Sniper rifle might earn you your basic Sniper Badge in SF, but it won't translate automatically for one in Vanilla.
If That wasn't the case, I would automatically have all the badges for all the kits already the first day I played SF.

I don't think it works that way. Prior to SF, the only veteran badge I had was BF2 special forces. I earned the basic SF special forces badge not long after starting to play SF.
It seems that if you have a BF2 badge it doesn't give you that badge in SF, but if you earn a badge in SF that translates to BF2, then you get both. I can tell you that I was nowhere near the veteran requirements for the Anti-tank badge only using my SF stats. The system had to be looking at my total stats for the entire BF2/SF game.
You can get vanilla BF2 badges in SF - but you can't get SF badges in vanilla BF2. This is 100% certain.
You can also get them at the same time, I got the vBF2 Veteran Sniper in SF, then two kills later I got the SF Veteran Sniper badge (which requires 17 kills IAR, as opposed to vBF2's 15 kills IAR).
I've gotten several vBF2-badges in SF, so it's definitely possible :)
There is something weird with this aswell, I've encountered a bug once. I had already gotten the vBF2 badge Veteran Assault (15h, 20 kills IAR), so when I got SF I wanted to get the SF Vet Assault aswell (15h, 22 kills IAR). However, I got as much as 25 kills without getting the badge - so I thought I'd have to play Assault 15hours in SF too.
Next day though, I got it at 22 kills (and I hadn't played more than perhaps 2-3 hours of Assault in SF).
I'm specifically referring to things like the First Aid and Resupply badges, NOT combat badges. Is it worth me going for my Engineer Veteran Repair badge for example?
Everything seems to focus on combat badges so far, just don't want to waste time!
I got my Veteran repair badge playing Special Forces so it is very much possible to get your none-combat badges playing Special Forces. This is what you wanted to know right? I think everybody knows about the fact that you can get the vanilla badges in SF but not the other way around!
